No sound with Sonar X3
I made a couple posts a few months ago about switching from Sonar 6/8.5 to Sonar X3 (and received a *lot* of great advice/tips). I decided to finally bite the bullet, tackle the learning curve and create some music with X3! My plans for this weekend was to get a functional understanding of X3 (where I could at least lay down some tracks). First major issue: I recently upgraded my computer... OS, CPU, graphics card. I'm now running Win 10 64-bit, Ryzen 5 1500X, GeForce GTX 1050, ASRock X370 Killer SLI/ac motherboard, 8 GB RAM, etc. The result is "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system". I go to Preferences/Audio/Devices but nothing is listed under Input or Output devices. Driver Mode is ASIO (which is what I had previously). Any suggestions? M.G. www.reverbnation.com/bitd

I would start my post with "My Audio device is" ...

I don't have any audio interface yet. I was trying to play Cakewalk tracks previously recorded through my Hampden Polk USB speakers... I was able to do this (play songs in X3 that were recorded in 6/8.5) before my hardware upgrades.

The result is "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system". I go to Preferences/Audio/Devices but nothing is listed under Input or Output devices. Driver Mode is ASIO (which is what I had previously). What audio interface do you have, you didnt list it? But, I would update your audio interface to make sure it has fully functional 64bit drivers. Then try ASIO and WDM driver modes at different buffer settings to see what works best for you. That is all you need to do, CJ

This device doesn't have ASIO drivers. You could try using WASAPI Exclusive mode.

I'm waiting until next weekend to buy an audio interface... Guitar Center (and some online stores) is having a July 4th sale.
I thought for now I could just use the motherboard's onboard audio? The Hampdens have their own drivers (and again, I was able to playback through them in X3 prior to the hardware changes).

You could try using WASAPI Exclusive mode.
There is only WASAPI mode in X3. It may work. Best starting place is the hardware setup guide.

The Hampdens have their own drivers (and again, I was able to playback through them in X3 prior to the hardware changes).
You may need to experiment with the different driver modes in SONAR to find the one that works with the Hampdens' driver for output and the internal sound chip for input. It may be MME or WDM. If WDM works then ASIO4All may be an option too. I suspect relying on PC attached speakers is going to be a problem in the long run assuming you can get them to run acceptably for now.

Your ASRock X370 has onboard audio 7.1 CH HD Audio (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec). Enable this in the BIOS and plug some conventional amplified speakers or headphones into the 1/8" audio out from your motherboard (the green jack on the rear i/o panel). Then try the WASAPI or MME driver modes with this audio output. If you don't like the audio latency with these options, you can always try ASIO4ALL until you get an interface. Be sure to uninstall ASIO4ALL before attempting to install an audio interface and the supplied real ASIO drivers!!! [Edit: I think you can bypass the USB hookup, and using the DAC in your motherboard's Realtek audio codec, just connect to the 1/8" aux-in connector on your powered speakers].
