randomize a dozen one-shot samples

Hi,

I have a a dozen samples at about a seconds length and would like a way to toss them into a randomized pattern.

I just have to get familiar with a grid and perhaps I can roll them all out with the paint roll.

I would then just erase an amount for each but in different places and then look for them to fall into a semi-music sequence.

I would like to avoid this by simply loading them up in a tumblr and hearing what shakes out.

Is there any such "randomizer" program in Cakewalk?

Thx.

Load each one up into a separate cell in the matrix view, close your eyes and click?

TBH, I have no idea if this would work, but its probably easy to give it a try.

Can't you trigger matrix cells by note? (Never used it before).
Throw your samples in the matrix and send it a random MIDI note stream, or just use a midi file.
I have Reaktor stuff that does stuff like this, but you want Cakewalk-only answers.

The sfz engine synths have lorand and hirand tags. Session Drummer makes use of these tags to randomly select samples from round robins. There are quite a few examples in the instrument sfz file included with Session Drummer, for example, stevenslate-sizzlekit-dry-snares.sfz in the "2 - Snares" folder.

I haven't seen sfz.exe recently. It used to be supplied with Sonar.
More importantly, I cannot find the docs for the sfz format anymore, either.

H'm.

Anyway, yes, random sample selection on Session Drummer.
But programming it was easier when I had access to the docs

Any search engine should be able to find a wealth of resources on the web. sfz files have been discussed in the instrument forum at length. Personally, of the bundled sfz engine synths bundled with SONAR, I would use either Rapture or Session Drummer for this exercise.

I've used the plugin 23 words to do something similar. Might be worth a look:

Interesting project.

Here's something simple that might work, as an easy tumbler:

Load up the samples by dragging/dropping them into a Session Drummer 3 Instance.
Turn on the Track Arpeggiator and set it's octave range to 1, since SD3 only support 12 instruments.
Then Select Random Pattern.  That's it!  If you need even more randomness, you could automate the Arpeggiator parameters via automation, and then use the Random pattern tool to draw that automation.  You can set the other params for the Arpegiator as needed.

You're going to have to record the track's audio in real time if you want to keep some of the sequences, or maybe something like a Midi-loopback saving the Midi.

Hello,

I saw three good ideas that I can use here.

Okay.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
