Saving Project audio to custom location seems to be broken in 2017-06

Hi folks.

Once I have completed a project in the studio I use 'save a copy' to export a version to a live performance drive. On that drive I have all of the projects stored in one folder, and another folder containing the individual audio folders for each project. In the new splat update, no matter what I do it does not seem to be possible to save the project and audio to separate locations. Even when I set the paths in the save a copy dialogue box, the audio export creates a new folder and saves the project and audio folder inside it. The only way around this seems to be saving the project then moving the project and the audio folder to where they are required, opening the project, and pointing it at the audio folder before resaving.

Am I missing something here? Is there a setting that has changed in the latest update?

Can anyone save a project with the project in one folder and the audio in a separate folder in 2017-06?

Thanks!

Bruce.

Hi. I did this last night, without any issues.
    Could it be permission related?

Is it a usb drive?...some one said, he updated the usb port drivers in the device manager, and,..((although perhaps not related to your issue, if usb needs be updated manually?)), and you are using a usb drive, who knows what is causing the issue?

Could be one needs a bios update?...or all updates known are stable....of the os, and lined up with the DAW for those updated to work ...or sort of work proper.

Sorry, I am not going to try to troubleshoot MS OS with you anymore.

But, I will try to say, look into the forums...of what is left to glean over...
Some oddly saying this worked out for them,..and it solved X...might apply to other things also?

I know you came to find answers...sorry, I only have Questions myself as to why the oddity?.

And that, is not all have, not all are experiencing what you are experiencing....It may have something to do with something getting in the way of what is being asked be done.

That could be as the above mentions...Permissions.

I have seen some oddity with that also...A folder, having no access available...What is inside?...cannot open even under admin...nor change the attributes of it....seems locked.

Why?...unknown...So I removed the drive and wiped it out...with another system that does not adhere to MS Protocols....Folder removed!....does this crap ever end?...no...virus?...not sure....and who put it if so is?...

Could be?...Keep thinking it out though...and , post your doings and findings...so more proof is put to the ones who can do something about it.

Here this, when clicking ok to ULA agreements....If they do not allow the proper use of said software as is set to use with user and hardware, but disclaimers to warrant any loss to anything connected to that use, when agreed to their terms to use , in said agreement...If it cannot be used, as put forth to be agreed to, with Software made to be run on that Host machine with Host OS running the devices properly under that agreed format of agreed to

....Who is breaking the agreement of ULA they use to entrap hackers?...and hackers are fixing the blunders of the OS and other things put into or upon,...Wow, what a twisting of events....I said some smart kid will figure it out....And some have!.....interesting eh?

They are breaking it, to entrap people into it...breaking agreements...but they break it first, So, if you hack in, to fix...and are arrested, take notes....it was not working as it should have been working with standard gear....HARD DRIVES...are standard gear....So if this or that is not doing as it should do....then the OS or other partner/Driver/ or third party mayhem may be to blame.

But I blame the OS...win MS development...HOST....That is just me?...keep your eyes open, and your wit sharp, and be as gentle as a lamb, but as cunning as a snake.

    Oh yes...

Best of luck to you...and your quest for answers...I am sure you will find, when you look into some of, as directed, if it does not solve...Put things back, and take notes...share what you find....helps others also!.

    Cheers.

The way you describe it saving is the new default as of 2017/06 release. See the 2017/06 Music+Tech magazine.

You may have to look around your process to see how it needs modifying. Your method does indeed seem very unusual. you must have to rename each of your project audio folders so they can coexist in the same folder.

I suspect it is certainly to do with the new default Mike. I have used this method since Sonar first got per project audio. I am not sure what you mean by renaming folders -  the audio folders are each given the name of the relevant project upon creation/export.

Re: Saving Project audio to custom location seems to be broken in 2017-06 2017/07/02 16:51:59 (permalink)
I think in perf of Sonar..you set the default folders to...where you wish....and even the auto save place can be saved to where you wish.

Now, I believe I used this for each project, and made a folder on drive other than os boot dirve...each project got a new folder named and set to open for that project, and audio....As you are claiming...I have done in past..

Then when save as, i seek out that name and drive and put the project saved in that , and audio should be saved or written when recording to the audio folder of that project name made.

I have lost some tracks here and there doing it, so, I try to save the hole project and files periodically in one bundle file., right after the cwa file...just to be sure all is somewhere...once I found missing bass tracks of just saving cwa...and that missing file not found box showing up...and no bass in the audio folder.

Once I found missing tracks....I started to wonder why...and sometimes things not saved in folders told to save to, ending up on the drive, but not in the folders...of downloads, and or drives putting to the task....oddly, some installers do this also...MSI file?...why is it on most of my drives?...some bent installer did not put it in the right place, some say...

So, I hope nothing is still a bug...but if so is one...it could be related to the OS and drives....not sure though...and it may also be, some bad chipset issue?...check it out...or bios update needed, or sata driver...ect.

and then again it could be OS...again things go buggy...as we all know to well, with that one running the show.......lol.

But when you find the problem and solve it....put solved in the header...so if I come back to MS and Sonar...I can read what you found and then I know...to tell others!

And so we sail onwards....Did you see the movie with Russel Crowe?..Pirate ship mates at the table of two weebles?....Bugs.

    Cheers

Thanks for chiming in Chuck - I do have that checked. That's the issue. It seems to be impossible on my system to define separate locations for the project and audio folder. No matter what paths I enter it seems to be overridden and Sonar creates a new folder containing the project and audio folder. Ken has successfully done it with the new update so it must be something on my system. Not a huge issue as I have a workaround. Just a bit weird.
