no sound but registers on channel strip

Hi all,
haven't used sonar platinum for awhile so I have forgotten heaps.

Problem - inserted soft syth from drop down insert menu. Bass - SI bass Guitar 1
go to piano roll view to input notes
piano keyboard appears at left side
click on keys with mouse pointer
no sound but registers on channel strip at side (midi track)
input set to Omni - output set to SI bass Guitar 1

Any suggestion  welcome

Kind regards

Where is the output of the SI bass Guitar 1 routed?

If you're using an instrument track you will probably benefit from switching it to split Midi/Audio, then you can see if the synth is generating audio data as well as midi

Gday Jonesey. Thanks for the reply.
Ok seems when I insert a soft synth, in the insert soft synth options box I had selected "All synth outputs audio: mono".
However, when I changed the selection to "First synth audio output" I had sound.
Still got a lot to learn about this program.
    Kind regards
