Anyone get their hands on an Intel i9 yet?

Hi all:

My main DAW has been acting erratically for a month or so and finally hardly boots.  I keep getting a memory Controller 1 Error and believe I had a cap go ( heard a loud snap one night) on the mobo.  So time for a new system as replacement parts are hard to find and high priced.I'm looking at the new i9's and running off a quad cor i7 laptop in the mean time, which is a drop in performance from a i7 3930 6/12 core and 64 GB of memory.

Has anyone actually tested an i9 10/20 core?  I believe the i9 12/24 core might be out in August.
Does anyone favor Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte or MSI x299 mobo's?   I don't need Thunderbolt at this time but it would be a big plus to have it come with the thunderbolt card or capability, at least included.  It does seem that only the Asus boards have the Tbolt connector and card availability.

I've looked at the  ASUS PRIME X299-DELUXE and ASUS TUF X299 Mark 2 .  I've also looked at the ASRock X299 Taichi and ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming X299 Professional Gaming.  For Gigabyte I looked at the Gigabyte Aorus X299 Gaming 9 and 7.  For MSI it's the MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC and MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK.

This will be set up with 64 GB of memory also.  Any opinions would be welcomed.

Thanks
Kevin

Yes, we've been working with the i9.

    Something to keep in mind:
While the i9 CPUs are fast, you only get the higher number of PCIe lanes (44) with the 7900x ($1000).
    The 7800x ($400) and 7820x ($600) both have 28 PCIe lanes.
When paying $600 for a CPU, I don't like having this limitation.
    The 6850k ($500) has 40 PCIe lanes.

If your build is simple, 28 PCIe lanes won't be a problem.
Multiple video cards... or multiple PCIe x4 SSDs is where you start chewing up PCIe lanes quickly...

    Best Regards,

    Jim:

I saw the lanes limitation while researching.  It's one of the reasons I was looking more at the 7900x or the 7920x, when it comes out.  I hate to spend the cash and possibly have to wait but I don't want the lane limitation.

This will be a single video card, 4- HDD, 64GB Ram, with an Orion 32 (USB 2), Console 1 (USB), USB Novation 61SL MKII keys and possibly my Alphatrack (if the drivers will work).

I've used Asus as of late with mixed results.  I have a P5 still running like a champ  but my X79 Deluxe just didn't live up to expectations, as far as stability.  Asrock is the only one on the list I haven't used.  The X79 has failed at a bad time concerning the new Intel releases.  I'm hoping I won't have to stay on this laptop too long.

    Thanks
    Kevin

I was hoping for restock and launch dates for  the 7900x and the 7920x but still no info on the 7920x.  Looks like  I have a couple weeks on this laptop, waiting for restocking and release.

    Thanks for the info Jim.

I have a P5Q but the MB temp sensor is right by the video card which produces heat. The sensor always reports excessive heat even with a video card fan and a case fan aimed right at the sensor. Even so, it never gave me any trouble. Just didn't like the constant heat warnings.
