Comping grouped clips

Recently I have issues with comping grouped clips, namely when selecting a new area the new group numbers are exactly the same as old group number. Minimal example:
1. Open blank project
2. Add an audio track and any audio clip.
3. Right-click the clip and select "Create selection group from selected clips" -> a number [01] shows on the clip.
4. Press ctrl-t (open Take Lanes view).
5. With select the middle of the clip with the smart tool -> the clip is split into three clips all of which are grouped into selection group [01].

Previously new clips would be assigned selection group numbers [02] and [03] (or whatever new unique numbers were available). Does anyone have similar issue and perhaps found a workaround (other than manually regrouping 50 clips every time)?

I have not seen this but I have not comped group tracks in the last month either. If you click on one of the split clips does it select all of them (including the ones to either side) or just one on each track?

Unfortunately it does select them all.

What is your option set to?

It is exactly the same as yours (with the box being checked). I've tried unchecking it, restarting and checking it again, but nothing changed, as if that option did not have any effect.

EDIT: Correction - it does have an effect, but when splitting the clips using "Split...\Split At" (not with comping). Yet, when I do "split at the selection" the resulting groups are [01] [02] [02] rather than [01] [02] [03], and same for "split repeatedly", i.e., [01] [02] [02] [02] [02] ... rather than [01] [02] [03] [04] [05] ... (but this could have been previous behavior, I don't know, I rarely use split at the selection).

Ok, just making sure.  The comping case is using a newer code path that didn't get the selection group logic.  We'll look to address that.  The duplicate groups you listed from split selection/repeatedly did work that way previously.

Ah, right, perhaps this is why I was not using selection splits. Maybe there could be an option for that too (of course there is a reason why it was decided to be made that way, I'm only saying that it's easier to merge groups than to split them)?

Currently I am going to revert to an older version, so I won't be able to check anything else easily, sorry (hopefully the transform tool is already there). Please fix comping as soon as possible – without grouping it is not usable.
