Finally got the courage...

Hello all. New to the forum, and kinda green (compared to many folks I've seen here on the forum...wow!) but trying to get better in my composition and production work. Here's an example of a track that shows more or less where I'm at. My stuff hovers over the darker side of Progressive Trance and (unlike many) I actually DO use hardware synths (Virus TI2 KB, Virus Rack, Alesis Ion, Alesis Fusion, Korg R3, Novation X-Station 61, Novation XioSynth 49, Roland JP-8000, Roland MV-8000, Roland JD-xi, Korg Minilogue, Arturia Microbrute, Korg Microsampler, Korg Microstation, M-Audio Venom, and the complete Korg Volca and Kaossilator / Kaoss lines just for fun) in addition to vsti plugins in Sonar.

Here's a link:

Yes, by the way, you DO recognize the starting point for the image used for the song!

If you hear something amiss, odds are that it's my screw-up, but it's possible that it's also an intentional glitch (as is very common to some flavors of EDM such as trance).

I'd love any feedback...the good, the bad, and the awful...I think that I can take it...even if trance isn't your cup of tea.

Thanks!

Edit-Sorry about the link. The forum keeps deleting my link unless I disguise it first.

Edit 2 - Trying again to post the proper link after some activity here.

Edit 3 - Finally, I can post links! The correct one is now above in this message.

You need more posts and time on the forum to post links (hint: listen and comment on songs here to get you post count to 25 over the next five days IIRC).

    Welcome to the songs forum.

Personal furry opinion the kick is far to present, all the synth work is just lost under that kick.
Probably a good track hiding in there if the last two minuets are anything to go by but even then the kick is just OTT.

Many thanks. I'm still trying to figure that out myself as it seemed to jump up a few dB when I rendered it to FLAC. It's likely too loud from my monitors when mixing it, but the rendering to FLAC definitely seemed to have boosted it. It's as if the FLAC algorithm has some kind of kick drum compressor built into it.

    Regardless, thanks for the feedback!

    hi Brian,
    Used Ed's link to listen...
Nice track.  Since I'm in my office listening on headphones, I guess I won't need that cup of coffee right!
Nice thematic bullds.. A bit long tho (forgot how long club music really is)..
Synth at 3:30 sounds brittle (could be the cans I'm listening in)...
Don't bother me.. I'm just rambling at this point.. It's hard to type while you're dancing all over the office..

Thanks for the feedback! The difference between the link given and the one I'm TRYING to give is about 12 phrases which shortens the song up to kill the incessant repetition that the version you listened to contained (the "Meddle Mix", which you can easily find from the first link from my SoundCloud page, is shorter, better balanced, and manages the kick a bit better...please check it out once you've had your nerves restored 😁).

Thanks so much again for the feedback!
