Is there a chase control in MIDI?

HI - This is with respect to the new Sonar Professional software: I have the rhythm part of the song just the way I want it. The bass sounds right, so do the background strings and the drums and the guitar, etc. The melody is played as a piano patch. Then I record part B of the melody with a trumpet patch (on a separate track) and it turns out fine, however the bass now plays with the trumpet patch. I checked the bass track in the event view and there is no patch change. Does anybody here know why this is happening? Thanks!

Thank you for your reply! I am using a Yamaha PSR-S970 Digital Work Station (keyboard).

MIDI channels misconfigured so the trumpet MIDI is triggering the bass sound?

Perhaps the PSR can have different instruments respond to a single channel. I don't think this is related to program changes, but probably to MIDI channel assignments.
