Another interesting music movie: Frank

This was my in betwixt practicing basslines smokey break flick. I rather enjoyed it.

Reminded me of some of the wacky artists/gigs from when I was still scrabbling up from street level busking as a late teens/early twenties nutbag in the mid to late 90's/early aughts.

Naw, that came a few years later. At that point I was still occasionally doing the odd showcase with some of the ole open mic/street clown freakos but tried to keep it limited to the semi sane artists.

It was a running joke for years that I was the only guy in the city who could put on an acoustic show and without fail have it descend into a brawl every time. It was pretty twisted.

As much as I enjoy(ed) chaos I actually dislike violence so I had to start getting a little choosier about who I played with/invited to perform.

Still though... lots of... er... intersdasting mammories.

And no... it ain't about Zappa.

It's about mental illness and how it relates to art.

Then again... maybe it IS about Zappa.

I watched that when it came out and I couldn't decide if I thought it was good or if I'd just wasted part of my life watching a load of drug-fuelled nonsense. I'm still not sure.

It did make me go and write something afterwards though, so it served a purpose one way or another.

I kinda miss the chaos of those days (but not the issues that started them).
I remember before my first show with the BFCH, at the Cloak & Dagger - Vera warned me that it could get rough.  I was a little disappointed in how well behaved the bar was!

PS.  I saw Frank years ago, and was surprised to like it.

    Hi, Sluggo.

Ya, the C&D was far from "rough". I mean over the maaaaany years I hung out/played there I booted a couple people out but really... any kind of violence was rare. It was actually where I went to get away from the chaos of my other haunts.

The places I'm referring to were a whole lot weirder/crazier.

    Hope you're well.

Yup, those are the chaotic places i was missing.
And I'm well - probably because I don't go to those bars anymore!
