I was going to recommend looking in the Cakewalk store for DPro expansion packs but it appears they are not listed anymore. DSF made most of the expansion packs for DPro and they are still available at their site.

Make sure that you didn't miss these.  Some of the best sounds in Dimension, IMHO.

Dim Pro has been around a good while, but beyond Digital Sound Factory, not much 3rd party stuff ever took off for that.  It's an oldie, but a goodie!

It looks like DSF hasn't lowered their prices much, seeing their bundle is $299, and many individual packs are $99.  I would expect that the sample libraries for Ensoniq and EMU synths are rather dated by now.

But for a few hundred bucks you could be looking at a sampler like NI Kontakt 5, IK SampleTank 3, or Steinberg HALion 6, instead that is still supported, and with newer samples.

DSF recently had a sale. The have sales several times a year.

WRT the virtual B3, I have not looked at the sfz files to see if the controls could be mapped to the RPro UI.

DSF does have sales from time to time, as SCOOK noted. I've even seen Cakewalk offer DSF stuff on sale, so you might want to watch for that, too.

Don't forget that Dimension Pro can read .SFZ files, and there are still a lot of those available for free and for sale. A quick Google search will turn up dozens of useful sites hosting legitimately free .SFZ instruments.

Dimension Pro has always been more of a synth that plays samples, than a sampler.  It is a joy for those that enjoy creating their own sounds, and it comes packed with the raw materials that you can recombine to make new sounds with.

As was already mentioned, since it can read .sfz format files, there is a lot of freely available content in this format.  The .sfz format is an open standard that simply uses a text file that accompanies the raw samples, or multisamples, to define how the sound should be set up in an instrument.

If you look into the Dim Pro factory library folders, you will notice that this is how it is set up.

One of the best free libraries that I have run across is the Virtual Playing Orchestra. This was curated from the best free orchestra sample libraries available.  http://virtualplaying.com/virtual-playing-orchestra/

VPO contains section and solo instruments patches.  Just for grins, try loading these three VPO patches into the Dim Pro elements 1-3 for a full layered orchestra across your keyboard!
  • General purpose patch for full string section (violins, violas, cello, bass in a single patch)
  • General purpose patch for full brass section (trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba a single patch)
  • General purpose patch for full woodwinds section (piccolo flute, flute, oboe, clarinet, english horn, bassoon)
All instruments are set to only play within their proper note range.
