Why don't notes of chords show up in the piano roll?

I imported  the midi files of a song into Sonar, and decided to rewrite a few bars, so i inserted the new melody for that part in the piano roll.  Then I needed to change the chord in one bar, but when I went to the piano roll to replace the chord, there were no notes showing in the piano roll for any of the other tracks, other than the new ones I had just inserted.

When I put in the new notes, I selected just one track for the piano.  The rest of the tracks were all developed as MIDI files from an arrangement program I use (Jammer Pro).  All the music plays fine, but I can't figure out why none of the original music is represented in the piano roll.  Which means I can't figure out how to insert a new chord for all the other instruments to play to match my new melody.

I'm using Win10, Sonar X3.  Should I be able to do this?  Thanks.

First off, make sure Jammer isn't exporting your midi files as Type 0
you want a midi Type 1 file for doing single midi track editing.

Take your individual midi tracks and Drag them in to sonar and drop them in a synth/midi track.
Then right click on the midi track you want to edit and choose Views/Piano Roll View.
You also must make sure the midi file is in the appropriate track (the SIT/the synth track).

That piece you just wrote... you can always copy/save that by dragging it in to the browser
(to a folder you created in Windows explorer). Then simply drag that piece back in where it belongs once you have all your nuts in a jar.

Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64

Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control
