"General error" when trying to save project

When attempting to save a project, I've recently been getting a little popup with a yellow triangle and exclamation point, with the (ever so helpful) "general error" message.  After a dozen or so tries I am eventually able to get the project to save.  I have not noticed this problem in other projects, but I've only gone into one or two others to try to replicate the issue, so I can't say for certain whether it's a Sonar issue or specific to this project.  Any ideas about what may be causing this and/or how to remedy it?  Thanks in advance!

Oh I hate that one. Been a while.
I would do a chkdsk /f from an elevated command prompt.

Have you ruled out that this error is a plugin issue ? What sort of plugins are you using in the erroneous project(s) ?

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

Actually, this is a pretty large project so I have a few plugins that I don't use often, and I know of one that has exhibited some quirks for me in the past. I'll render what I can to audio and delete the plugins and see if that helps.

If you have the time for sleuthing, you could always launch the project in "safe mode" (holding down "shift" key while launching the project) then you could zero in on which plug might be a problem . . . though, it kind of sounds like you already know the offending plug ?

When I've seen that error on save (which is not often, maybe 2 or 3 times ever) I've saved the project as another name and all was fine. Not sure why, but it worked!

I've encountered this from time to time. Pressing play seems to make it go away.

I will certainly try that if it happens again! Interesting. It is possible that it finally saved after I had played back a section, and I just hadn't made that correlation. I saved with a different name and it hasn't manifested itself so far today... Thanks to everyone for their input!

The old new name, I was never here, method.
Actually that's what I've done with that same error. To quote someone though, it's been a while.
