FX tempo changes? ANSWERED!

I'm working on a song that has multiple tempo changes. I have a send set up on my guitar lead track that is routed to a bus with a delay fx. The delay is set to follow the project tempo to set the delay time. The problem is that when the tempo changes I hear the typical weird sound that happens when a delay time is changed while a note is sounding. I think I can correct this by automating the 'bypass' on the delay plugin?

1. How do I automate fx parameters on a bus...is it possible?
2. Is this the right way to handle this?

Lots of delays have this problem, even (especially) the bundled Sonitus. I've found only one way to mitigate the problem: automate the tempo-sync feature on the delay, switching it off before the tempo change and re-enabling it after.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Just like you'd do it on a track. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question?

I never used automation on a buss before. I mean, with a track I select the track, use the tool to change from clip to automation and select what I want to automate from the drop down. When I do that I see the automation envelop and I can display the automation lane as well. Can I do the same with a buss? ...'not at my DAW at the moment.

yes. its the same thing as Track FX automation.
Open a lane or use the bus filter.

WOW!  Ya know, sometimes I can miss something so totally obvious it freaks me out!  I have always used buses for grouping tracks or for creating fx sends.  I never once thought about automating the bus.  In fact, I never actually expanded the buses in Track view and never even really thought about it.

Bus Automation is an amazing tool.
Now that they have finally extended Aim Asst to the Bus pane it is much easier than previous 2017.07
When you would have to either guesstimate or move the Nowtime to where you wanted automation to begin/end.

A cool experiment with stereo delay on a bus is:
Move one stereo channels Pan Up/Right and the other stereo channels Pan Down/Left and hear the sound just expand in different directions.
Or leave one stationary and move one stereo channels Pan Down/Left. This allows the Delay to be panned in different directions.

Oh, one bummer, the 'get delay time from host' does not show up as an automated option in the bus filter for the Slate Repeater(delay).

Cant you use the Left/Right MS function and calculate it ?
I do delay calculations for all my projects ahead of time. I keep them in my project notes.
This is the calculator I started off using. now I use a simple table equation.

Yep, absolutely, but picking up the delay time from the project automatically was one of the cool things about the Slate Repeater. I can still use this feature to generate the delay parameters and then enter them manually at the appropriate times in the automation envelope.
