[Solved] Apply Trimming not working on MIDI clips
EDIT: There is a rather confusing element to this. I copied and pasted the slip edit version 3 times and I wonder if they are linked somehow? This may be my ignorance in how PRV works as opposed to Abeltone's clip edit - PRV shows all midi together on the timeline where in Ableton I'm just editing the MIDI for the selected clip. Let me do a little more homework so I can come back with more specifics. I searched the forum and found where people said they had to apply it twice to get it to work - it just doesn't work for me. Even if I apply trimming multiple times, if I edit the MIDI clip in the Piano Roll view, all of the extra MIDI junk before and after the usable part of the clip is still in there. It is annoying to see and makes focusing on the actual MIDI more difficult. Is there a way to truly apply trimming or do I have to go and manually delete all the other stuff if I want it gone?

smallstonefan if I edit the MIDI clip in the Piano Roll view, all of the extra MIDI junk before and after the usable part of the clip is still in there. Bounce to clips. It does the same exact thing. I've never even used Apply Trimming. I've always just used Bounce to clips. They are essentially the same thing.

If you slip-edit a clip, the first time you Apply Trimming, it removes what is hidden. The second time, it should actually remove any blank space on either end of the clip. At least, it does for me. That being said, Bounce To Clip certainly will get you there. Regards, Dan

Yes, bounce to clip will do what you want. However also note that you cannot trim a MIDI Groove Clip, you need to turn off groove clip looping first. If you do that, or bounce to clip, Apply Trimming should do exactly what you want...at least it does here. This is a common question so I'm going to mark it "solved," but will remove that if the solution doesn't work for you.

I never tried to trim midi as I thought was just with audio.

Any audio or midi clip with slip edit data beyond the points (of visibility) You need to use "Trim" or "Bounce to clips" or that slip edit data will still be there.
