(Solved) Disable HD Audio Hoses Media Players in latest win 10 update

Title says it all. Win 10 build 15063.540. If you disable HD audio or even make your interface the default device, streaming media (Spotify, youtube...) will not play At least not for me. Even my own wave files will not play in media player unless it is through the HD Audio.

I have i7 3770 and an antelope orion 32+. If anyone knows if I am missing a workaround, please let me know.

edit; also NVidia card and 4k tv

I should add that this doesn't affect SONAR. And I should probably have posted this in hardware, but I know a lot of you disable hd audio in your own rigs. I wanted to get the attention of as many of you as possible.

I didn't phrase that properly. I can disable it. But then Media Player and streaming audio from Spotify and YouTube will not work. I believe it to be a new copy protection limit.

Or disable it in the EFI BIOS settings. This may require rebooting into recovery mode which doesn't only just restore things gives access to other aspects of Windows which can't be disabled when it's active. You might be able to do by pressing DEL or F2 by holding it down immediately after a system reboot as well.

Media still will not play. I'm going to change the thread title. I didn't phrase it correctly.... Done

Will use a restore point in the morning. No time left to fix this today. Got to get myself downtown for a John Mayer show.

I hope this is just you or your interface. I rely on Spotify and YouTubewhen learning songs and need to be able to play a softsynth alongside.

You are correct it is a tossup whether this belongs hardware or computers.

It is definitely not the case that ALL users must enable HD to get Windows apps to work on current Win10. I have the HD audio disabled on my ATI Radeon, only use my audio interface for all Windows apps and have no problem playing youtube and SONAR at the same time. I do not have an Antelope Orion 32+ to test.

It might be a sample rate mismatch between your windows settings and your SONAR settings.

I have disabled HD Audio on the NVidia card and I am able to play everything in Media Player, using Camtasia, and uploading and playing YouTube video. I have no issues that I know of.

Hi scook, thank you. You nailed it. Taskbar-playback devices-properties, had to be changed. Sorry to be an alarmist, that is one I have run into before and I should have remembered it.

I did not disable mine so if I forget to turn on my interface the HD audio takes over...But I DO have my interface set as the default playback device.  YouTube, Spotify, etc.  works fine for me.
