I wanna a stop timer Got ideas?

I want to be able to set a time for Sonar to record, and then stop.

Create a 24 hour long project and set punch in points?

You can use or make a software that sends a timed keystroke "R" to SONAR and then after a while a timed "[Space]". For example with Visual Basic.
Or you can record 2 days and then cut out what you wanted to record. SONAR has no problem to record 2 days.

Scripting would be my solution. Something like Autohotkey.

Software products like "Autohotkey" are not able to make a absolute time (as 9:00) to record and stop (as 9:16). They can only set a delay in the range of seconds between record and stop. But never absolute time.
If recording must be set to an absolute time as 9:00 then scripting is in my opinion only possible with VB scripts (or Visual Basic). Because the script must have access to the windows timer.

If it's only a stereo recording most wave editors have timers settings.
Also screen capture programs do this. I use Debut Video Capture to record webinars. You can then export just the Audio, just did this last night.

Don't know why punching wouldn't do what you want.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Craig has the idea right there. Set your timeline for H/M/S
Calculate the time when you want it to start recording (Punch in) and stop recording (Punch out).
It should be noted that I have never punched in when there is no data present. So I don't know if that works.

Its a little tedious considering you'll have to wade through possibly hours of a blank track until Sonar starts recording but if its short term (not that long) this should provide efficient.
Scripting would be a little cleaner though.

Re: I wanna a stop timer Got ideas? 2017/08/10 15:56:27 (permalink)
Was hoping someone had created a plugin to do this by now.

First time i wanted one of these was when i was dubbing dozens of reel and cassette tapes. would have been very useful.

Occasionally i want to record noises for a while. July fourth i recorded firework noises for a couple of hours. Had mics in 6 windows. Had an oven time set to remind me.

Current need: I am using a wireless mic with Dragon Naturally Speaking to dictate into various editors. Since the words are not always what they are supposed to be, i record the audio into sonar.  All good when sitting in front of the computer. But when I lie in bed and work on stories and essays before i fall over, it would be good to stop recording at most at two hours.

Letting the recording run all night is OK. But then i have to clip the clip, bounce to clips, and prolly have to saveas the project to git rid of the reference to the changed file. Then delete the old folder.  Would be easier to use the same project for many sessions.

The punch in/out will might work.

I use a CAL script to add midi quarter notes to all projects, anyway. So data will exist.

Putting in three hours of notes is quick.

Then set punch in for measure 2, and out at 2 hours.

Will try that later.  Thanks.

Like I said if it's only stereo all wave editors That I have will do what you want.. They are made for this. Sonar is made for recording songs.

Not the most elegant solution, but I found this to work.  Create autohotkey script like below and set Task Scheduler to run it when desired.  In task scheduler you create a task, choose properties, set actions to location of this script, and set trigger to time you want it to execute.  If you also want to set timer to start record, replace space with r and create another task for that.

#SingleInstance force
SetTitleMatchMode, 2
Winactivate, SONAR
sleep 2000
Send, {space}
ExitApp

What i am testing is WavePad with voice activated recording. So no timer. It just stops recording when I stop talking.

It is like so OK.
