audio problems
I just had to reload Sonar X2 and now recorded audio is distorted. Playback of previously recorded stuff is fine. Any ideas. Thanks in advance

As asked before. What kind of audio interface / sound card do you have, and what driver mode do you use?
Is this on a new pc? Which version of Windows?

Thanks for getting back to me. This is the same PC (Windows 10) that I have been using for a while with no problem. Its a standard Realtek soundcard (built in) with MME 32 bit drivers.

The more details you supply the faster someone can help. Don't be shy. X2 was never very stable so the only good solution might be to update.

Ouch. That's a tough pill to swallow. Not that like to recommend it but have you tried ASIO4ALL ? The Latency with MME is pretty bad. Questions: - Have you introduced any new plug ins since this problem has started ? - Check your Master Bus / Gain staging to make sure its not distortion from the signal path. - Could be an overloaded signal to a plug in. Onboard soundcards are tough as they don't have the benefits of being able to see the input metered signal and there's no knob to turn down the signal/pre amp.

That's a good idea. I believe you are correct. WASSAPI would be better than ASIO4ALL no doubt.

I prefer ASIO4ALL with on-board Realtek audio on my Win 10 laptop, Sonar Platinum.
Low latency. Great sound. Less fattening.

Yes ASIO4 all is much better than WASAPI, I tested both on a laptop I use at work. But I only do midi projects. I have not recorded audio as I don't see that as even a remotely possible endeavor with the very low quality audio input jack. I don't even want to try. But pure midi projects or pre recorded audio are just fine ASIO4all is very stable. There's perfect track sync unlike WASAPI and WDM mode which record a loop back test late by a substantial amount.
So the OP's issue is not Sonar but the audio system. Like every one who wishes to record audio you need a proper audio interface. ASIO4all would probably solve the issue...but,, an upgrade to a bug free DAW and a proper audio interface with good drivers is always a good idea if you really want to have smooth sailing and enjoy working with any DAW.

Agree, recording music without a dedicated external audio interface is not going to be worth the effort.
For playback only of recorded audio, or virtual instruments, the internal chip can produce high fidelity stereo audio when played back through good monitors or headphones.
But the internal microphone input jack and preamp was never designed for pro audio recording. Might be OK for a headset with microphone in games or video conferences, but that would be about it.
