Try putting the file in Cakewalk/Vstplugins folder and then run the vst scanner in Sonar.

Dexed is a free DX7 emulation. If it's delivered as a .dll it needs to go in the folder where all other VSTis go, such as C:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins (for 64-bit). Don't know where the included patches go.

I have the 64bit version of dexed working on my Sonar Platinum 2017.8 EA.  The DLL file itself is 2,612,736 bytes in size and is located in my VST folder

The patches themselves are in the following folder:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\DigitalSuburban\Dexed

This folder also contains a file called Dexed.xml which is basically a text file that contains some parameters

The zip file that you download contains both the 32bit and the 64bit dlls.

The latest version can downloaded from here

    Hope this helps

You cannot open dll files in that way so that message is entirely expected.

Make sure you're using the right version... 32 bit in 32 bit Sonar, 64 bit in 64 bit Sonar.

The .dll is the vst software. You need to put it in the corresponding vst directory for either 32 or 64 bit OS. This defaults to /Program Files/cakewalk/vstplugins/ for 64bit or /Program Files (x86)/Cakewalk/vstplugins/ for 32bit on a 64bit system. You can not open a .dll with sonar.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

You do not need to install another host.  Sonar is all the VST host that you need.  I have Dexed, and it works fine as a plugin in Sonar.  You just need to copy the .dll file to the correct folder and scan it with Sonar.

I am using Dexed 64bit in Sonar with my audio driver in ASIO mode.  With this configuration, my latency is barely noticeable.... round trip - about 12 ms

I did but sonar does not see it, i put the file directly In to the vst folder ,but nothing ,the only thing is that I don't know if Dexted is at 32 or 64 bit ,it does not give you the option when downloading it

The page I linked to above contains a link to a zip file (dexed-0.9.3-win.zip).  This zip file contains 2 dll files within its folder structure.  Both files are named the same (Dexed.dll), but you can tell which is which by the name of the folder they are in within the zip archive.

After placing the DLL file in your DLL folder, did you do a VST reset and then a scan from Preferences | File | VST settings.
