Orchestral: "Connectoga Schooner" (The Drunken Sailor Song)

https://soundcloud.com/steve_karl/conestoga-schooner

The original idea was written in the mid 70's on a '65 Pbass with a pick and that is the Sea Shanty theme that starts this piece and evolves throughout.

Strings and Brass - Kirk Hunter Emerald Orchestra
Other Strings - Kontakt Factory Vienna, Kirk Hunter Virtuoso, Advanced Orchestra Pizz.
WoodWinds - Kirk Hunter Emerald (early on) and then the more articulate ones are from Advanced Orchestra.
Percussion - East/West Gold, G-Town Percussion, Ultimate Orchestral Percussion.

    Hi Steve,

    I really enjoyed this piece

I do not often listen to classical stuff, and if I do it is usually my few favourites like Holst, Debusy and Mussorgsky.

You tell a great tale here and I was hooked right until the very end. A lovely and most interesting composition for sure

Losts of more great stuff on your SC page, too, Steve... Some great guitar stuff

    Cheers

    Steve,

Well-composed piece! I've tried my hand at a few orchestral pieces, but I tend to approach them as regular songs. I don't think I would be able to do a full thematic arc like this without losing my mind. Great job on this!

    Thanks Dan.
I'll have to google "thematic arc".
I'm just wingin' it and with this one my intent was to just try to find different variations on the original theme.

Enjoyable track Steve, sounds well captured and constructed/composed, the mix comes across here dynamically.

This is completely brilliant! Best thing I've heard in awhile. I had no idea Kirk hunters libraries could sound so good. I guess it depends on who's using them. Bravo!

Wow!  And I do mean wow!  Very impressed,  I loved it.   One of my favorite pieces of music is Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring.  You can see why I love your piece.

    Thanks jmasno5.
Yes. It was my goal with this one to attempt something that hints at "Americana."
Copland is one of my favorite composers.

Very nice. A bit filmic, im seeing cartoons in my head. :)
Maybe a tiny bit more stereo width would be nice.

    Great work. :)

Yea ... I think I was looking at it from the front row of the first balcony as opposed to the conductors position.
This one is done but I'll keep the width in mind for the next one.
    Thanks for the observation.

Wow, that was really well done.  The orchestration was dynamic, well placed, and everything just sounded... right.

And FWIW I think the title fits perfectly.

The only thing that could make this recording more authentic is to have the sound of some poultroon in the audience coughing during one of the more silent passages.

very, very enjoyable. panned like the real thing. imaginative and definitely keeps the interest.
