Hey, thanks everybody! First visit to the CH today so I was unaware of the well-wishes until I got a call from lawajava, who tipped me off.
I am happy to report that what I got for my birthday, surprise!, was exactly what I wanted: Superior Drummer 3!
OK, so I had to buy it myself, but it's the thought that counts.
I've been dieting for the last two months, an extreme regimen where I only eat one meal a day, so I reckon I've saved at least as much money on food as the $200 SD3 upgrade. (BTW, it's working. I'm down 24 lb. Only 24 more to go before I fit into my height/weight chart. I've cut my BP meds in half and my A1C has dropped from 6.7 to 5.8 - any diabetics out there will understand the significance of that! I may outlive Tom Petty after all. Keith Richards, not so sure.)
Also, we should wish Sting (Gordon Sumner) a happy birthday as well. Sting and I were born on the same day. I just look older.
