What the wha? How did you come across that?

That was in the sidebar of some vids I was watching the other day. Seems kind of a random thing for both of us to have stumbled across in such a short time frame.

Are we now google married?

No, I simply watched the same video (it's in the Now Playing thread) and saw it in the same sidebar.

Here's the real version.  Most people don't listen to Vai much, but most guitarists would give their left plummy to be able to play like he does!

It came up in my sidebar 2 days ago, and I never watch Steve Vai vids.

I guess I'm not in the 'most guitarists' bracket then. He bores me to sleep.

I loved Passion and Warfare when I first started playing but yeah... I haven't listened to Vai in years. Just not really my thing anymore.

He's still amazing though.

My wife went to see an open-air screening of Dirty Dancing last night (..yes...). I just pulled up Amazon Prime, and guess what's right at the top...

So, if you were able to steal the abilities of a guitarist (not saying you had to sound like them), who would it be?  The two in the video above might be good candidates.  Just to "KNOW" the guitar that well... *Sigh...*

Not that I didn't say "sound like him" but to be able to play like he does!  Then you can really do whatever YOU want.

They probably tracked her phone location. This is why whenever I get a cel phone again I am going to do my darndest to make sure it's a "Dumb" phone.

Actually I'm hoping I can get my ancient Nokia set up again. It takes a sim card so it may be possible.

I think I'd still go with Marty Friedman. That dude did some whackaloon stuff theorywise.

Alternatively some obscure jazz genius nobody's heard of that may not even have left his parents basement due to severe autism.

In my opinion, Guthrie Govan is the most technically proficient rock guitarist alive. The thing is though, I'd be hard pressed to identify him, just by listening. He can play *anything*, and improvise to an incredible level, but doesn't seem to have a 'sound' of his own.

Yeah, Waves (which he wrote when he was 19!) is probably his defining song but, I can't think of too many other guitarists you'd like to just hang out with (and not talk about guitar).  He's about as down-to-earth, humble, easy-going as you can get.

You gotta love how he introduces this song before tearing it up on a fretless guitar!

Oh yeah, and the cellphone/rubber chicken interlude is hilarious!

He does seem like a really nice guy. My favourite thing of his is the solo at the end of 'Drive Home' by Steven Wilson, beautiful.

The timing between the three of them on this is unbelievable!  Can't insert the video (f-bomb in title) and the drum solo, while awesome, is way too long IMHO, but the tightness of the rest is dead on!

Yes I did, because she borrowed it from your mum and forgot to give it back. I was going to send it back to you because your mum said that you were crying all the time because you couldn't go to sleep without hearing Althea and Donna singing Uptown Top Ranking even though half of it is all distorted because the tape all came out once and you had wind it back in with a pencil.

Speaking of Steve Vai, I just today stumbled upon this about his freaky notation work for Frank Zappa. The guy has some incredible transcribing skills and could wrap his head around that clinically insane Zappa phrasing like noone else.
