Sonata no.5 Two Dance as One

Hiya eveybody, time for something new https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uml1fzus5J0 Sonata no.5 Two Dance as One. Whilst I didn't write the main motif of this piece, I did however write eveything else including the stucture :). My friend's mother was looking for some help with a piano motif she had kicking around, I went and recorded that piano motif in midi format, which I took home and had to work out. I didn't bother with a metronome :) doh. All the orchestral sounds and the bulk of the scribing was done in Notion 4 by Presonus. Of course, the piece was mixed in Sonar :)

The piece is written for piano, viola, cello, clarinet, vox, synth bass and found sounds.

I've been working extensively over the last few months on some technical deficiencies of mine...most notably my EQ technique. This I believe I've solved. I was also on a Wave's 30 dollar plugin binge lol, meaning I was also trying to integrate these new effects into my mix chain. In particular I brought Wave's console emulation plug (sorry Cake)...night and day between Cakewalk's and Wave's. Wave's console emulation forced me to really think about gain structure, which in turn meant many months experimenting to make mixes work again. I also brought Wave's Abbey Road channel strips...Redd and TG 12345. These channel strips are the bomb, not for everything mind you, but sampled strings really shine with the Redd channel strip, and for pop vox you can't beat the TG12345, with of course the NLS console emulator set to the same and used as a summing amp!

Anyway enjoy, and for those who want to only hear the audio and not view the film painting below is a soundcloud link.
