Virtual midi cable
For years I've used LoopBe1 as a virtual midi cable. It shows up in midi devices and I use it with a Control surface to change the drawbars of my Kontakt Vintage B3 organ. I'm using the latest version of LoopBe1 but it sure has been flakey with Win 10. Many times I have to uninstall and reinstall it. The driver is dated 2011 I'm thinking about an alternative. Years before LoopBe1 I used Midi Yoke and now see that it does support Win 10, so I'm considering using it. Also I think that my VSL (Vienna Symphony Library) has a midi cable, since I own that I may install it and may try that out. I'm not sure if Kontakt Komplete has one, I have that but the Kontakt Forum isn't working for me presently. Any other suggestions on how to proceed?

Hey Gerry. Not sure why you are having trouble with Loopbee. I am using loopbe30 with 16 virtual cables under windows 10 with zero issues. I also use Bome midi Translator, which has its own virtual midi drivers as well. It is not free, but is a very handy utility well worth checking out.

I am using LoopBe30 with only 2 ports active on Windows 10 here OK. The only issue I have ever had with it is when a plugin unexpectedly crashed Sonar, and have had to reboot to release the virtual cable in order to use it again. I think that this is just something about Sonar not cleaning everything up when it crashes.

You can try loopmidi & rtpmidi https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html loopmidi is a virtual midi cable (supports multiple virtual midi ports of course). Rtpmidi (allso available on this site) offers midi over ethernet using Apples Bonjour. But for working on only one PC loopMidi should be all you need to connect your midi applications internally. The software is free & maintained well.

Maybe because I'm using the free LoopBe1. IS yours the paid version? If so maybe it's more updated

Thanks this is exactly what I'm looking for - an alternative to see if it solves the problem. I'll try out loopmidi

I'm using the LoopBe30, which was licensed thru another product bundle, so technically it is not a free version. But the driver is dated 2011 as well. The home page lists compatibility for the latest Windows 10 Anniversary and Creators updates, so apparently no updates are required. Sorry to hear you have issues with it. Maybe it is worth giving loopmidi a try!

I've used Rtpmidi and have had success with it, but it was for only one midi connection.

It definitely supports more then one Connection, you simply have to add more ports (sessions) - nevertheless rtp midi ist midi over Ethernet. I am not related to this softwre - i work only with this because it seems very easy and straightforward for me.

I am using the paid version Gerry, though I don't know that this makes a difference. I havent needed to update it in a very long time. The issue could lie elsewhere. There is a free evaluation copy of loopbe30 that you could try.

I installed loopMIDI and so far I'm very impressed. For my system it's much more stable. I tried it on a CWP and opened and closed CWP's, Platinum, rebooted, etc. So far nothing seems to confuse it like with LoopBe1. Of course LoopBe1 may be fine and perfect for other systems, but I'm sure everyone will be glad there's a simple alternative like loopMIDI. Hopefully my good fortune with it will continue.

Thanks for the update, Gerry. Will keep this one in mind if I ever need to look for an alternative to LoopBe.
