I am Having an Issue with SofTube Console 1 in SONAR

I am mixing and everything is fine. Then for no apparent reason I lose all my mix settings in Console 1 for some channels. My "Kick In" track is always affected by this.

In Console 1 I have Shape, EQ, and Drive engaged with different settings. I go on to adjust other settings on other tracks. In time I notice the kick sounding funny, I check it out and see that all my settings are zeroed out, as though I never did anything on that track.

Before I posted here about it, I tested it out. I even saved a Mix Scene in SONAR. After the tracks (Kick In, some backing Vocal Tracks too) zero out to default, I try to call up a Mix Scene that was saved before this happens, and it does not bring back the settings I had before.

Could this be a corrupt project or something? I have to admit that this is making me late on delivering a mix to a client and I am getting a bit frustrated having to go back and remix parts over and over instead of moving on to finish the mix.

Hi, Charles
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I haven't come across this before. Are you running the latest C1 software version, v. 2.4.17?
You haven't by any chance inadvertently grouped some tracks in C1, making this happen?
If I come across anything like this, I'll let you know.

A little off topic, but I hope you save C1 presets, making the "re-mixing" easier
All the best.

No, I do not have any tracks in groups. Yes, I am running 2.4.17.
I'll keep researching....

I wonder if it has something to do with my FaderPort. That was what caused weird behavior in the past.

It made my system a little unstable, until I made those changes.

Thanks. I unplugged my FaderPort and so far so good. But I have to leave to take my son to school and go to my other job. Tonight and tomorrow I have an off-site video client. Also on Saturday I am shooting (video-shooting) my oldest son proposing to his girlfriend and Sunday I have a birthday party to shoot. So I may not get back to the studio until Sunday night to test further. But I have a suspicion it is something to do with the FaderPort again.

Maybe it's time to ditch the FaderPort and move to something else. Perhaps a Behringer X-Touch? I don't know. But if unplugging the FaderPort solves this problem, I will be highly motivated to finally part ways with it. I am open to suggestions for sure...

I'm still using an old Tascam FW 1884, in Win 10, X64, SONAR Platinum (latest) with my RME, without any issues
When it dies, I'll try to get a Behringer X-touch. Haven't heard any horror stories about it either.

Do explain, please!  I do not have issues with my Console 1 (one of the best things I ever bought!!!), but I am constantly getting audio dropouts since the Win 10 update.

I just disabled and uninstalled HD Audio, and Nvidia Audio device in Device Manager.
I did some other minor tweaks I can't remember right now (not in my studio now). Perhaps screensaver and some power management.
All the best.

Re: I am Having an Issue with SofTube Console 1 in SONAR 2017/09/27 04:21:27 (permalink)
It strikes again!!! I lost my whole night's work tonight. Right after it screwed up and zeroed out all my work, I closed SONAR and reopened. Upon reopening the Presonus FaderPort went crazy with the fader moving up and down rapidly and freezing the startup process. I had to unplug the USB from the FaderPort, then SONAR opened but all my work was still lost.

I am most certain that this is happening because of the FaderPort now. I don't know if there is a solution. I love the FaderPort and it is such a part of my workflow, but I have to leave it unplugged if I am mixing with Console 1 apparently because I will lose work if I don't. Bummer...

Does this happen with the Behringer X-Touch or the FaderPort 8? I am afraid to use anything Presonus now so I would probably not look at the FaderPort 8. I will try to adapt a new workflow without a control surface for now.

Are you using Faderport with the original (Presonus) plug-in or with AZ Controller?
Any plug-in, including Control Surface one, can technically corrupt Sonar memory.
You can try the plug-in you do not use at the moment as a check.

The only other possibility for the effect you observer which comes in my mind is something horribly wrong inside USB host/device/driver/Sonar MIDI ports chain and what should be sent to / received from Console mixed with Faderport communications.
a) Recent Sonar versions definitively have some bug in MIDI<->surfaces routing. In/Out ports are periodically messed. That can explain "chaotic fader movement". You can try to remove MIDI related .INI files and re-insert MIDI settings. Also re-build surfaces list. Check for periodic Connect/Disconnect for (any!) MIDI devices in Windows, that normally trigger the bug.
b) try to use another USB port for Console or Faderport, I mean try to use them on different physical USB chains inside computer.

I don't know if this is helpful but maybe worth to check:

It's not necessary to use Console 1 as a MIDI device in SONAR.

Mine is unchecked (in Preferences > MIDI > Devices) and Console 1 works without the problems you described along with other MIDI control surfaces including X-Touch Compact (using AZ Controller).

Only a shot in the dark...

Best,
