How do I force Sonar to stop using a VST 3 when a VST 2 is available?
I cannot seem to find some sort of control for this under the VST section of preferences....how does one determine which version is being used in a project? Do I ahve to actually delete the VST3 from the Common folder? thanks

Hi. I believe that you have to do this in the Plugin Manager. Just exclude the VST3 versions, and save as a new layout. And uncheck "Replace if possible on startup, and Hide Related VST2 Plugins" under Preferences (P), File, Vst Settings, Vst3 Migration. Hope it helps. All the best.

Why would you want VST 2.4 v VST3? I prefer VST3.

Glad to be of help. PS. I also use (except from Voxengo SPAN) exclusively VST3.

Why would you want VST3 v VST2? I have a slight preference for VST2 because I can organize files the way I want. Although admittedly, now that most vendors have resolved their VST3 issues, it doesn't much matter anymore.

John, Many (all I own or checked) VST3 version of plugins which are using for presets providing VST3 container don't work well with Sonar. I wrote to PA support about it and they advised me just to use VST2 version which in fact can show presets in plugin container (often with lots of init things) as like support guy estimated it would take long. I guess they contacted Sonar team as it is not related only to PA, but as I mentioned all VST3 versions which are not using their own GUI to provide presets but VST plugin container.

Interesting. Thank you for that explanation. Its funny how things change. I remember that I was a strong supporter of VST 2.4 and wasn't a fan of VST 3. Now I go VST 3 when ever I can. In the end it really doesn't matter as long as you are satisfied.

Yep, exactly :) I am using VST3 version of plugins which provides its own build menu with presets and VST2 ones when they are trying to use Sonar's VST3 container for this purpose. But in fact as long as any of version can do its work good don't care if it is VST3 or VST2. :) But because of this issue I am happy companies provides both versions.
