Poor ole mumzie is sched' to have her gall blatter removed next week.

I'm guessing folks here have had the same procedure so I'd really like to hear from those who've had it done so I can know a bit more and reassure her/tell her what to watch out for/etc.

I'm off in guitarland at the moment but any stories or warnings and the like that accumulate would be appreciated.

A bit of context: She has a good doctor/surgeon it seems (won't go into it but he's done some things that have both her and I pleased with his competency).

Essentially she has gallstones that were blocking up the bile duct(s) to the liver and thus producing bile/gall bladder attacks. They were supposedly saying that they could not do the removal without that blockage being dealt with (whether it remedied itself naturally or not). If the blockage did not clear on its own they were going to put in a stint to clear the liver blockage before the actual removal (which would require two procedures instead of just the one).

At this point it seems she's okay for removal so no stint (but that may change if more stones muck everything up) so next week will likely/hopefully be a straight up removal... otherwise in goes the stint and then the actual removal a couple weeks later.

That's about all the info I have so... well... giv'er down gall bladdery doods/doodettes.

As I said I just want to be able to know more so I can just... IDK... be reassuring/slightly less than useless/know a bit more about what to watch out for because she can be a stubborn old bird but WILL listen to my nagging if I present it in a more... oh geez, uh earthy anecdotal, sciency, medical kind of way.

Cheers.

had mine out a few years ago.  other than longer recovery than I expected, it wasn't that big of a deal as far as surgery goes, but the pain pretty much went away!

Hi, Beags. Can you maybe elaborate or give me some pointers? VIA PM iffen you want.

I'm calling her tomorrow and I'm thinkin' I'm gonna call her as much as she'll allow me too up until the surgery. It might keep her out of the damned garden and whatnot.

She just got her intertubes hooked up again so I want to point her into some useful directions (especially after the surgery).

Cheers!

Pray for her, I will.
Having a doctor you trust (as you do) is a HUGE help going in and coming out. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Gall bladder surgery is usually done laproscopically and not nearly as invasive as days gone by.  Plus, after recovery, she'll be able to eat all the cheeseburgers she wants.  Hope everything turns out swell.

Same thing happened to me I woke up at 2AM with pains, drove myself to the ER was hospitalized with stones blocking my duct. Dr said I would have died had I not come in.Jaundice and liver would have shut down.

Surgery a month or so later with small incision .The worst part was the gas they pump inside of your belly to extend the area to perform surgery. The gas moved about and terrific pain I had to go back to er same day as surgery, thought the surgery incision had burst , pain was terrible in lower stomach . No pain meds helped. Gas had to dissipate.

I had GB attacks all my life and didnt recognize the symptoms, lucky I took heed of the last ones, or indeed I would not be here now.

Other than a change in BM type due to lack of enzymes from no more GB, everything works the same, and each person is different, though.

Surgical techniques are amazing these days. I think one of the things you have to prepare for with any operation though is the recovery from the general anaesthetic. It affects some people more than others, and can stay in your system for a long time afterwards. I don't know if these are of any use (as always, check with the doctor before taking any supplements before or after an operation) but I know milk thistle is very good in general.

https://www.mindbodygreen...-after-anesthesia.html

I've had a general anaesthetic 3 or 4 times in my life and I felt really crappy afterwards each time. Weak as a kitten, nauseous, spinning room etc. The last time, I actually had to drag myself out of bed 2 hours after waking up, check myself out of hospital (against the doctor's wishes), stagger out into the summer heat to flag down a taxi and go home to get ready for work the next day as I didn't have anyone to cover for me. What an ordeal, I don't know how I even got through that! However, other people bounce back really quickly after an anaesthetic so hopefully your mom is one of those.

Thanks, everyone. Sorry I have not replied. My back went sideways after I posted this and I've been trying not to aggravate it further (by typing loooong arse posts) but for now the insights and well wishes are appreciated. We had a long talk the morning after I posted this and she seemed to have a good handle on everything so that's good (and more proof of a decent doc). Gonna hit her up again tomorrow (day before she goes in) so she can just talk about whatever then I'll be hanging by the phone all day the day of until I get the call (either from her or her friend who's helping her) when it's done.

Anyhoo... I gotta try to get my gimp arse out to do some stuff tomorrow so I gonna go back to moving as little as possible but thanks again, guys and I'll followup.

Cheers!

Jebus, friggen' criminy!! I just now noticed I mispeeled "bladder" in my headline. Hilarious and goes to show how distracted I've been of late over this.

I bet that was driving Strumster cray cray. It's okay, ole boy. Mumzie seems to be okay so you can unleash that pent up rage now. lol

Anyhoo, it happened yesterday and I guess everything went according to plan aside from some weirdness in the recovery room where she wasn't waking up as she should have and had to stay there for a few extra hours. They don't keep you overnight these days because they're cheap/broke arsed buggers but her friend was there to get her home and is sticking around until mumzie is back on her feet.

Due to the extra recovery time I was getting a teensy bit concerned but at about 8pm or so the phone rang and on the other end was an extremely whacked out mumzie. I had told her previously to just let her friend call me and let me know what's up but that's mumzie for ya. Good ole (albeit somewhat silly) bird. She obviously just needed to rest so we cut it short and I called her back today.

She was still pretty whacked out and said her ribs were hurting and making it hard to talk so I got her to pass me over to her friend (who is a very nice, caring lady and one of my mumz besties). After thanking her profusely for being there I got the lowdown... and ya, everything went well (aside from the recovery stuff but mum ain't no spring chikken anymore either so I guess that makes sense).

Hooray!

Thanks for rooting for her, guys. I have no idea whether positive vibes affect the outcome of things like this but it sure helps the nervous ninnies (aka: Beepsoid) to know he's got buds... however virtual they may or may not be.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go and beat the ever loving crap out of my guitar for a while because I've been too distracted/in physical pain to do even that this past week. But...
