Piano Roll View

Hi
Is there a way in the Sonar Piano Roll View to show drum hits as Diamonds rather than blocks?  I find it hard to differentiate the hits and tend to find the step sequencer view easier.

You need to set up a drum map which can be viewed in the prv.

OK thanks.  I will have a look into that.  I haven't learnt how to set up a drum map yet.

Depending on what you're using for drums, you will likely not need to define a drum map yourself, as the collection of pre-made maps is pretty extensive. Just pull down the destinations list in the track header for your drum MIDI track and select "new drum map", which reveals a long list of drum maps to choose from. The "General MIDI" map will work with most drum samplers if you don't see one specific to your instrument.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Great thanks.  I found that feature and just had time to have a quick look.   So I'm using session drummer 3 in the track I'm playing about with and there's a drum map called Session Drummer 2 - Default.  So I could just use that?

Yeah try it - it shouldn't be that inaccurate - you might need to re-map one or 2 kit pieces but that's about it.

There are some differences. Check near the bottom of the "Using the Drum Kit" section in the "Session Drummer 3.chm" for the current MIDI assignments. The file will open with F1 when the SD3 UI has focus or open the help file directly from the OS. The default location for the help file is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Session Drummer 3\Documentation.

in PRV, I'll often just set the duration to 1/16.  It's pretty close to a diamond.

Thanks again.  The advice here in the forum is always really good. I have a drum map set up and can start getting more familiar with using it.  I didn't know there were help files like this for Session Drummer too.
