Lets improve ripple edit
I'm curious if anyone else would like a couple changes to Ripple Edit. Here's what I'd like to see. A Ripple edit toggle with an indicator to show when it's engaged. The other thing is to get the functionality of the Ripple Edit All setting but limit it to a single track. I often use Sonar like a spread sheet, with different parts of a project in tracks that are source material for other tracks. I want to move events and markers in one track without affecting those other tracks. I can't do that right now. Yea or Nay?
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. WIN 10 Pro X64, I7-3770k 16 gigs, ASUS Z77 pro, AMD 7950 3 gig, Steinberg UR44, A-Pro 500, Sonar Platinum, KRK Rokit 6

Sonar Platinum | Windows 10 64-bit | 8 cores | 16GB Ram | Focusrite Scarlett 2nd generation 18i20 interface | too many guitars, way too much software | Presonus Eris 8 Monitors (thinking about a Presonus T8 sub!)

It does that with events, but I think he wants to move items associated with a project (specifically, markers) as if they were associated with a track. I think that would require an additional dialog box that pops up when you want to ripple edit a selection that asks if you also want to move any markers that are in the same space on the timeline as the selection you're moving. The only complication there is the different types of markers. For example you might not want to move the markers that are pitch markers, but do want to move the ones that indicate something of interest in the track. Currently you can cut and paste markers to move them, but that's more time-consuming than having them move automatically when ripple editing.

I would definitely like to see a toggle for it in the control bar, like Pro Tools has. It seems like too important an editing option to have it buried in a menu.

My use of Markers is to identify certain events in dialogue, mark chapters and so on. I'm doing an audio version of a 700+ page book. Hey, it's a job. The only markers I know about are the ones you manually enter. So as I edit breath noise, mistakes and other glitches, I want Markers to be locked to the audio location. Sometimes I need to delete things without deleting the hole, in order to preserve the timing of the narration. I'm bouncing between the different modes frequently and then I have to go and tweak the Markers. But don't get me wrong, Ripple Editing has really sped up my workflow. I would say my editing time per chapter has improved by 30% thanks to that 1 feature. More of those please.

I think the Cubase style is really useful - you can have up to 10 marker tracks - one active at one time. This covers markers you might use for recording positions while doing that, and other marker track that stays with time positions when doing video etc - ability to have separate timebase for each. Almost all navigation for me in timeline is through next/previous marker - so excellent way to change to another marker track as project evolve. When recording I find it better to set a marker for the position you use as start - rather than standard pre-roll and similar options. So having those markers on different tracks - you have that active that is appropriate right now. Very, very, very......very useful - and not hideous amount of work for how it helps and assist you. And ability for ripple edit to have toolbar option - is it available for the custom module - don't remember if everything shows up in that part? So at least have a text toggle button - if that is possible. Not entirely up to date on Sonar these days. Believe both ProTools and Reaper has toolbar option for ripple edit so you see if active or not with a glance.

Technically, yes. But it's not veryuseful because custom modules don't indicate status.

I missed that, you are right, thank you. So request then would be to make maybe up to 5 custom stuff permanent or similar like new custom extra module where they are visible all the time and if toggle type indicate status. All in favour of flexibility.
