Sonar Demo Project File "Living for Now" by Sophie Jane

The Cakewalk User Group on Facebook is having a mixing contest
using the Demo project "Living for Now" by Sophie Jane.  The contest
involves using only stock plugins.  I didn't want to mix using the stock
plugins, but did do my own mix of the song, which I present here.

I combination of Waves and Slate mostly depending on the Instrument,
and, of course, O7A for Mastering.
I was REALLY happy with this mix...

EDIT:  Forgot to say Thanx Wookie!   That's not like me!
I was babysitting this morning so was typing in a hurry!

Thanx Baps!

Having good tracks helps a lot.  There was some noises
I had to deal with...but all in all, I was quite happy with
the result!

Hi Larry ,

I have listened to this a couple of times since you first posted it. Reason for not commenting sooner is simple... I don't know enough about mixing proper music to give any real helpful criticism.

That said, I did go through a short phase a couple of years ago where I had a go at the Boz Digital Labs contest a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed that, even though it is so far away from what I would normally "mix." It certainly helped me gain a better insight of dealing with all the different elements within a song, how to make space, all that kind of stuff. And it has helped loads with my ambient stuff. At least I would like to think so.

Anyway, back to your mix of Living For Now... Yeah, listening on my "not-so-great" Tannoy Reveal active nearfields... not the best to listen on, but better than headphones I guess, and it does sound really good... Nice and clean, and I love how the bass comes over on my monitors. On my third listen because it is taking so long to type my waffle

cheers

andy

Sounds quite good except the lead vocal is a bit sibilant (could use a de-esser) and could use some lower mids. Aside from that, I wouldn't change a thing.

Yes indeed..that was one of the thing I meant to do...de-ess the vocal.  I forgot that I had removed the
de-esser that the standard project came with!  Thanx Wayfarer!

Sounds really nice Larry, everything present and clear. I like the song too, reminds me of Aimee Mann.

Very nice, Larry.  Good song and good mix, which makes for a good advertisement for Waves and Slate.

I liked the song, and it sounded good to me, especially the drums and bass - they sound just right in the mix.
