Noel Borthwick - CAL Power

I was looking at Cal.scripts at http://www.hexachord.net/cakewalk-cal/, and I downloaded a Zip file called CAL Power, that contained a variety of scripts. I was reading the text file, and lo and behold, they were written by a young Noel Borthwick before he worked for Cakewalk. Thank you Noel for all the work you've done making Sonar an awesome product!

Here's some of what was in the text file:

"ABOUT THE AUTHOR
----------------
Hello musicians & Cakewalk users!
I'm a jazz guitar player & a software engineer. I write graphics software and
MIDI stuff as well. I have an album release with my group "Jazzmates" called
"Sound Matters" featuring some of my MIDI interests, in a jazz context.
If you would like to get a copy, e-mail me & I'll send you the details.
I currently work with Corel Corporation & am working on version 6 of their
CorelDraw! application.

I've developed several tools for Cakewalk support & decided to share some of
these with you. Hope you find these CAL programs useful. They were developed
over a period of time to extend the power of Cakewalk, allowing me to sequence
things which would have been difficult otherwise. They have been pretty well tested.
Some of these are complex CAL programs and require Cakewalk 2.1 or above to run.
They may take awhile to execute.
ENJOY
Noel Borthwick,
Ottawa, Canada"

Noel is a nerd's nerd who lives and breathes this stuff. He's an awesome guitar player, too.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

awesome...and thereby a shame that it's not continued and extended as it deservs.

CAL is more powerful and flexible than anything you can do in Cubase with the Logical Editors for midi and Project.
    Reaper has JScript.

    Wishlist for CAL:
    a) allow assign any key command to a CAL script
Would allow to execute, and since also allow popup dialogs asking for parameter values - you can do so many cool things.
    b) extend with all kinds of targets that were added since pre-X-series Sonar
    c) make an editor with syntax coloring and integrated help
One guy made an editor I integrated into menu system in Sonar - but this was Sonar 4 days.
    d) open the CAL forum again for exchange between users
There were always helpful people that like doing scripts for various purposes.

I was unaware Noel has ever been young.

...it would have been our loss had the "Jazzmates" cracked the big time.

Actually, they did. But they had to sellout first. Had to go commercial.
