Unchained Melody ala Hip Hop

Unchained Melody
Had the opportunity to record with a young Japanese dancer while I was in Tokyo a while back. The original song had conventional drums, but after hearing the results, she said, "It sounds boring." So I added a hip-hop drum machine groove. (What do us old-timers know, right?)

This is a tough one to handle because there's so much to compare it to.  You did a great job of it.

This is such a great song and melody to start with, and I can see how it could be very challenging because it's so universal.  Having said that, I enjoyed this version, especially that wild electric piano with the booming beats in the background.  The singer is good, too, though I got a little tired of the modulation f/x after a while.  Perhaps, alternate it with something different between verse and chorus.  But, that's just my two cents.  All in all, good job all around .

    All the best,
    Lynn

I like the vocalist and the keyboard work.  Sorry, but hip hop beats never did anything for me.  IMHO it adds nothing to this track which could stand very well on its own without the beat.

@Lynn: Actually, the only thing I added to the vocal was some reverb near the end.

@John B: I'm no fan of urban stuff, either. The singer insisted on something "modern."

Nice attempt at changing up the song. It didn’t seem to help it though and the hi-hat was so busy and monotonous that it drove me nuts. (Short drive for me)
