Dimension Pro Multisamples Not Found
I want to get all of my multisamples onto my "samples" drive. I edited my registry to look for my dimension pro multisamples on my F drive. The key I edited is (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp). I changed the multisample folder to F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples. The problem I'm having now is that DimPro is giving me the Multisample Not Found error and it's looking for particular wav files. However, the file in my multisamples folder is flac. When I do a search for the missing wav file, I find it on my C drive under Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples\Dimension Pro\00 - Wavetables. Is there another registry entry I need to edit? I'm wondering what the simplest solution is. I would like to get them all in one place if possible. Thanks in advance!

Hi. I have all my samples on a separate drive, and have done so for years. I have never touched the registry for this, as I wouldn't know how. Perhaps reinstall it, and tell it where to look for the samples when opening it for the forst time. IIRC, that is what I do when doing a fresh Win install. (it's been a few months, and I don't have my notes here now) Others will probably know better. All the best.

Thanks Zargg. I did do the reinstall and told it to put the multisamples on my F drive. That didn't seem to fix the issue. It looks like the reinstall loaded flac files and DimPro is still looking for wav files.

Can you give us an example of a specific file that it can't find, and/or the specific sfz that's loading it? Maybe it's not an issue of where the samples are installed, but rather a case of some files actually being missing. Most of Dim Pro's samples are flac, with only a handful of wavs. You can open the sfz with Notepad and see which actual filenames it wants to load.

Im sure you know this but what happens is you load the SFZ file and it tells the synth where the Flac/wav files are. If these files are not all placed in the correct directory's you will end up with missing files. I would load the back up of your registry. never mess with that unless your house is burning down. Some will disagree and recommend such moves. I however never touch the Reg unless it is totally necessary.

It's easiest to move the files/folders and then make a junction.

Set the filepath for the level above the multisamples folder rather than the multisamples folder itself, i.e F:\Dimension Pro instead of F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples.

There are two aspects to filename resolution. First, Dim Pro has to be able to find the programs (the sfz files). You don't appear to have a problem there, because you are able to choose one from within DP and load it. Your problem is with the second step, which is when DP reads the sfz file to figure out where the actual samples are. Everything it needs to know is in the sfz file. Sfz files can be located anywhere, because the sample paths contained within are relative to the sfz's location. For example, here's part of an sfz from Dim Pro: <control> default_path=Jacyn Riffs\ <region> sample=Riffs 1 - 001.flac key=c3 <region> sample=Riffs 1 - 002.flac key=d3 <region> sample=Riffs 1 - 003.flac key=e3 The "default_path" line tells DP where to look for files. Because the directory, "Jacyn Riffs\" has no slash in front of it, that means it's a relative, rather than an absolute, pathname. In other words, it's telling DP to assume it's a subdirectory underneath (relative to) the sfz's home directory. If you look in the Multisamples folder, you'll see "Jacyn Riffs 1.sfz" and within its folder is a sub-folder named "Jacyn Riffs", and that's where the actual samples are. When Dim Pro opens a sample, it builds the complete pathname by appending the flac filename to the folder it's expected to be in, e.g. "Jacyn Riffs\Riffs 1 - 001.flac". That's the path it passes to Windows to open the file. If Windows can't find it, the open call fails and DP reports it as missing. What this means is that the sample folders must be co-located with the sfz files, but beyond that it literally doesn't matter where you put the whole shebang. So you could stash "Jacyn Riffs 1.sfz" in g:\some_folder\cool_stuff\try_and_find_this and it wouldn't matter, as long as the sample folder "Jacyn Riffs" is there too. One thing that could have gone wrong when moving the samples could be that you only moved the top-level folders and forgot the sub-folders. In that case, none of the sample files specified in the sfz would exist in the place it expected to find them. That's why I suggested supplying the names of both the sfz and the missing sample name. Looking inside the sfz would tell us where it expected the files to be, and we could quickly ascertain whether those files truly exist there.

I had this problem some time ago with DimPro, and even worse when I installed RapPro since they all apparently decided to use slightly different pathing. Like said above what fixed it for me was noting that the path should be set one level above the multisamples folder. But these kinds of shenanigans were common for me. There IS another registry entry for DimPro file paths, though I forget it off-hand.

Sure, so just as an example I try to load the first program in the 01 - Dimensions category called "11th Dimension". It tells me it can't find the following multisamples: zeta add 8.wav saw 8080.wav When I do a search for these, I only find "zeta add 8.flac" and "saw 8080.flac" in my F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples\00 - Wavetables directory.

I don't have that sfz in my DP installation. Could it be a third-party add-on? I used to have a bunch of aftermarket DP stuff that I've since lost. I do, however have files named "zeta add 8.flac" and "saw 8080.flac". How about copy-and-pasting the sfz file here?

I never did any 3rd party add-ons. Everything I have is what was loaded with DimPro. Also, it looks like it doesn't use an sfz. It's just a .prog file with associated wav files. As I'm digging further I'm finding that since the reinstall, DimPro is unable to find any of the associated files, both wav and sfz. Another program, M1 Organ, is looking for organ 14.sfz. A search shows that it is indeed in my F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples directory. I don't know why it's not finding it.

When I load '11 Dimension' it shows E1 with zeta add 8.flac loaded, and E2 and E3 with saw 8080.flac loaded, both those flac's are in the respective multisamples folder. (Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables) Everything works fine.

Looks like I'll be of no further help, sorry. Dim Pro hasn't been usable here in ages; I can't run it. I have all the files, though, but found nothing named "M1 Organ*". Closest filename match I could find was "M1Tank Cannon Fire.aif" in the Rapture multisamples. :)

M1 Organ works fine here, it loads up organ 14.sfz in E1 and sine.flac in E2 which are present in the same folder I mentioned above. What happens, in the case of M1 Organ if you reload organ 14.sfz in E1 and sine.flac in E2? does that alter things?

I find it on my C drive under Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples\Dimension Pro\00 - Wavetables.
CSC is a 32bit DPro and Rapture Player using an sfz engine that does not play flac files. The plug-in has its own multisample folder containing parts of the DPro and Rapture sample content. The folder may be moved but since it is an old sfz engine, CSC cannot use the current DPro multisamples as replacements. Mistergreen Is there another registry entry I need to edit? I'm wondering what the simplest solution is. I would like to get them all in one place if possible.
The simplest way is creating directory junctions. This avoids messing with the registry. But given the registry edit solution was already performed. It should work if correctly done.
1) What is the path in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp? Please copy and paste the data from your registryt in your reply or post an image of it. 2) Are both 32bit and 64bit versions of the DPro VST installed? 3) Is a DX version of DPro installed? 4) When opening an Element what path shows up in the "Load Multisample" dialog? 5) Are flac files listed as a valid type in the "Load Multisample" dialog? The file type dialog is in the bottom right just above the Open and Cancel buttons. 6) Will DPro load a flac in an Element from the "Load Multisample" dialog? Preferably one from the current location of the Multisamples folder on F:.

Thanks for the response, Steve. See my answers below: scook The simplest way is creating directory junctions.
The Contents folder is: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro The Multisamples Folder is: F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples 2) Are both 32bit and 64bit versions of the DPro VST installed? No, only the 64bit 3) Is a DX version of DPro installed? I don't see one in the Plugin Manager 4) When opening an Element what path shows up in the "Load Multisample" dialog? It just opens with the search results from the last file I searched for. 5) Are flac files listed as a valid type in the "Load Multisample" dialog? The file type dialog is in the bottom right just above the Open and Cancel buttons. Yes. 6) Will DPro load a flac in an Element from the "Load Multisample" dialog? Preferably one from the current location of the Multisamples folder on F:. Yes, when the program said it couldn't find a particular .wav file, I loaded the corresponding .flac and it accepted it and worked fine.
In the meantime, I am able to replace the "missing" wav files with flac files from the F:\Dimension Pro\multisamples directory then saving the program. Tedious, yes, but it works.
