This is the longest weekend of the year!

At least for those of us on Daylight Savings time.

Remember, clocks "fall" back an hour this weekend!

Yay. An extra hour added to my 3 day weekend - before I embrace the new daytime schedule and have to be out of bed at 5h30. Ugh...

That was last weekend here. Nice that it's lighter in the mornings for a few weeks, but now it's dark at 5pm..bleh. Here come all those looong evenings to spend arguing on the Cakewalk Forums...

Ha!  I was wiped out last night and went to bed early, so I woke up at 5:30am today...  NOT my normal choice for a Saturday (or any day actually)!  Oh well...

I'm normally up before 5, often before 4. It's just my normal biorhythm, and one of the reasons I gave up music as a full-time job. (Only preemptive naps and coffee allow me to stay standing through a Saturday night gig.)

I've never understood why we need to "save" daylight in summer, which in northern latitudes is in plentiful supply. It's annoying when the sun's still out past bedtime.

I happen to LOVE daylight savings time. Arizona never changes. Always on Mountain Standard. Which means that we're on L.A. time 7 months a year, but will now be stuck on Denver time for 5 months. I want to be as far away from the East Coast as possible.

If Daylight Savings Time is ever eliminated (as it should be), I hope we get a choice in Arizona about where we wind up, time-wise.

As a programmer, especially for a wireless phone provider (Verizon Wireless at the time), having to code for time changes was pure hell.  I actually wrote the fuzzy logic that's used to identify call record hand-offs from cell tower to cell tower (which all have slightly different time codes).  Now add in the fact that times like 2:13am can happen twice during the time change back or not at all during the time change forward and it's just that much more fun...

Re: This is the longest weekend of the year! 2017/11/04 19:12:20 (permalink)
Last night I had to explain daylight savings to my girlfriend, who admitted that she has no idea what happens or why we do it. After wrapping her head around whether or not you get an extra hour or lose an hour's sleep when the clocks go back or forward, I then had to explain why they do it. After much explanation, she finally got it. But then I headed to Wikipedia to check something, and it turns out I had the whole thing ass backward. I always thought the clocks are changed for the winter in order to give the farmers an extra hour of daylight in the morning. But it turns out the "true" time is the winter time, and the clocks are changed for the summer to give us an extra hour of light in the evening. Just goes to show how easy it is to go through life with a completely botched up idea of something.

What I've learned over the years:

- Farmer's don't use a clock to determine when to do things
- There must be a financially motivated reason why politicians change the time

Yes.

There's exactly the same amount of daylight as there usually is, regardless of what time we say it is.

As a child I was once taken to a part of Glasgow called Castlemilk. I remember thinking even at a tender age that despite what I'd heard adults say, time travel was indeed quite possible.

Re: This is the longest weekend of the year! 2017/11/05 11:43:14 (permalink)
I picked the worst possible day of the year to wake up too early.

My eyes popped open of their own accord at 2:00 AM, perhaps from drinking coffee too late in the day yesterday.

That's 2:00 AM DLST. An hour later, it was still 2:00 AM. Now it's 3:40 AM. 3:41. 3:42...oh well, the sun will be up in just 4 more hours.

Hi,

Good time for me to get some extra sleep!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
