Big Fish Loops - am I missing something?

Just downloaded the October update with the anticipation of trying out the new Big Fish loops.

I'm confused. All I get is a selection of genres, each with a fully mixed song and its component tracks - nothing of value which I could use to be inspired to create anything, except than another mix of the same track?  Surely the point of loops is to give me starting drum loops, bass loops, synths etc so I can build something completely new or at least jam from it.

You can pick individual loops and mix and match among different genres. You don't HAVE to use them to create a mixed song, but you can if need something like a soundtrack in time for the 5 PM Fed Ex dropoff.

Hmm, still not convinced but I'll give them a go - there's 5GB to choose.

    Thanks

Well drum parts are drum parts. And you can cut up loops into pieces and re-assemble them. ALL loops started off as intended to be part of a piece of music. Loops can be organized as a collection of themed loops (e.g., drum loop library, acoustic guitar strums library, etc.) or as construction kits. Either way, you have a collection of individual loops.

It's too bad I was fired before getting a chance to finish the next Tech+Music, which had an article covering how to use loops in general. However it will appear in one of my upcoming Sound on Sound columns.

I was able to throw something decent together with these loops in a short amount of time. A little EQ work between tracks and I had a solid basis for a song. I don't usually use loops. AS far as loops go though. I liked these and was tempted to see what else Big Fish has.

The drums sounded excellent in the rock genre. So here I sit with three decent drum programs and I'm digging loops.Oh well. If it works might as well use it.

If you have any old Pro Tools discs or downloads, you might want to check them for Big Fish loops.
