Maintaining Clip Names

Most of my recording is of live performance in my living room. I basically push record and the performers (2 or more) perform songs one after another in no particular order that I'm aware of including multiple takes of some songs. If they stop playing and chat for a while or take a break I'll stop recording until they are ready to go again. Each time they start and complete a take I insert markers on the fly to help me navigate the session. I jot down song titles I hear for later use. After the recording session I adjust the markers and split all clips at each marker. To help me keep track of all these clips I just tried this process:
  1. I select all clips for each song and copy track names to the clip names.
  2. I then edit each clip name in the clip inspector properties to insert the song name and take number with the track name.
  3. I then select all clips in that song again and bounce to clips. Whoops.
Bounce to clips uses the track name for the bounced clip and adds a sequence number. The song names I'd inserted into the clip names are lost even though they still appear in the source project. I then open mix projects for each song and use the media browser to drag the clips for each song from the tracking project into the mix project for that song. That's more difficult without the song titles.

Any suggestions appreciated.

After bouncing to clips. I verified that the only file associated with each clip is the bounced clip file and I verified in the clip inspector properties window that clip name including the song title is still there. However, when I load that clip in a different project, the clip name is the original track name with bounced and an index number in separate parentheses. It looks like the information in the clip properties are stored with the project not the clip. Is that true?
