(SOLVED) Sonar default folder locations changed with recent update

I discovered today that my Sonar default location paths in preferences have been overwritten from the custom paths I had set up for my secondary data HDD with:

'C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum'

I had noticed that my default template has been missing since the 2017.09 Platinum update, but really started the hunt today after updating to 2017.10 and it was still missing.  Considered rolling back, but found the solution was to manually restore my default paths.

My big clue to check the default folder locations again was when I installed some Big Fish loops today, and noticed them being installed somewhere on my C: drive.  I know I had been using the path 'D:\Cakewalk Content\' for a long time, and in fact still had this setting in CCC (which was obviously being ignored for this install).

Did you by chance log out of the CCC?  I have seen the user edited defaults reset when this happens.

Don't think so, because the CCC content path settings that I had set were still in place in CCC as 'D:\Cakewalk Content'.

It's the Sonar path preferences settings that were reset, and not by me.  Haven't touched that in a long time!

I have just checked in SONAR and the CCC and can see no unexpected differences to file locations or paths.

    Sorry

    Sorry

Thanks, but still wondering how/why MOST of my default paths were replaced somehow in Sonar 'Preferences > Folder Locations'.  All paths except for 'Project Files' and 'Video Files' got switched.

The first paths that jumped out at me as broken were 'Templates' and 'Wave Files', because now instead of pointing to my usual paths 'C:\Cakewalk Projects' (projects and templates here) and 'D:\Cakewalk Content' (sample & loop content here), they were now pointing to 'C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum', and coming up blank.

So I was surprised when I noticed such a global change to something that never changed before.

I am not making this up.  It happened, and I clearly did not do it.  Something changed this, and that is not good.

Weird for sure, like you I have my Cakewalk Content on a different drive but as I said nothings changed.

Did you install in the normal way?

Always install with the Cakewalk Command Center.  Normally leave CCC signed in, and had set the 'Download Path' and 'Content Path' in CCC set to my desired locations last year.  Hands off.  Just install each month, and it always go smoothly.

This last update I noticed that my Big Fish loops were installing to my C: drive, so I halted that and started investigating.   CCC paths were still normal (D:\), so something else had changed.  The shocker was that Sonar preferences had been altered.

The only other thing I changed within this timeframe was to update Windows 10 from version 1607 to 1703 in October.  That went very well with no obvious issues, as far as I can tell.

mewhich ini file are these saved in? or are they reg keys?

anyone know? if it's an ini you could make it read only to prevent it happening again, but of course that doesn't explain why it's just happened

Yup.  Data corruption of unknown origin leaves me a little bit unsettled.  In my opinion, the setting could only have been overwritten with some new defaults by the installer.

It appears to have happened somewhat by design, if not intentional.  It's not random ascii characters.  The new path names are consistent and functional, but just don't happen to point to where my stuff is currently located.

    What could have triggered that?

Same problem here. Every path has been changed from my custom paths back to C:\Users\... Happened after the last Sonar update :-(. Do I really have to correct the paths after every update? Other than not updating, is there a way to stop this happening again?

I used to recommend Sonar, but this is a real PITA.

Correct your paths once and you are good to go.

Thanks Scook. Sadly I am outside the return window (30 days from their store). It was an upgrade too, not the full package luckily.
