What About Legacy Cakewalk Products?
I still have 8.5, it's the last version I purchased. Just couldn't get into the redesign of X1 and beyond. I'm wondering, if I have to reinstall, will it authorize via serial number? It does now, so hopefully it will after the servers are down. Of course, I have a system image, so that would save me. In fact, as has been pointed out, it should save anyone with any version. Everyone should make an up to date image asap!

Sonar X3 and below was challenge and response (serial and register). Something that could be done offline. in Sonar Platinum all you have to do is go to Help>About Sonar. If your version says "Owned" then it wont matter if the servers go down. you own the product.

If your version says "Owned" then it wont matter if the servers go down. you own the product. Yes, but if you need to re-install, don't you need to access the servers to reactivate?

With 8.5, you're actually in a better position than many because you'll always be able to reinstall regardless of whether the CW servers stay up or not. Don't know about separately-authorized components, though (e.g. Dim Pro, Rapture).

When I authorize D-Pro, I just put in the serial number, just like Sonar. In fact, it actually remembers the number, I just have to hit the button!

Thank you everyone. I was going to ask as this was how I thought it was, but wasn't sure when it changed.

Hey Chcuk Didn't know that. Mine says thru "infinity sign and then Status:Owned. I always thought we still needed the servers to verify. Hmmm. Would be so great!

Go into your Cakewalk account and save the 'My Products' page. Your serials and registration codes for all of the products you own are listed there, prior to Platinum and the Cakewalk Command Center connected products. You should be able to re-install 8.5 anytime if you have those numbers, and the installer disks.

I have serial numbers and registration codes in 'My Products' for Dim Pro and Rapture, so I assume I am good to go.

That makes sense, but what if we get a new computer, or wipe the hard drive and have to re-install Platinum? Without the servers how will Sonar update the status to "Owned"?
