Transfering Sonar projects to another DAW using OMF.

Hi folks.

It seems to me in theory at least that  the easiest way to transfer projects to another DAW would be a midi file + OMF export from Sonar. Cubase seems to be the star of the group of DAW's that support OMF unless you plan to change to  Mac.

Of course like all things DAW you dont know the pitfalls until you try it. Does anyone have any experience with OMF transfers?

Here is a list of software that support it:

    Excellent link.

I think I'll be going for Cubase especially since it supports OMF and has better notation features.

The alternative is Studio One, but does it support OMF?

    Hi Tony,

I couldn't find anything official, in a quick google search, but I did find this:-

And it has OMF import as a "miss."

    cheers

I'm steering towards Cubase as well Tony. Neither Studio One nor Ableton Live support OMF.

As far as I know OMF should work and you get only the audio clips (no automation, no levels etc.).

But probably you need also to prepare a midi file too in which you get midi clips and track tempo / signature as well.

    Not so easy.

I am really very sad for this situation and I really hope that something will happen letting Cakewalk to live.
