Things Be Crazy Upstairs
I just can't believe some of the stuff I'm seeing up there. Everyone has an idea about saving the company and writing petitions. A bunch of junior Rockefeller's. I think it's great that a few have stepped up to provide an online hangout. How long until that turns into a competition? Where will the REAL fanboys hang and where will you have to go for the smart folks? I wish that they could take out the trash in the Sonar forum so that people could ask actual product questions and get some help. There may be further contact via the forums but it's entirely possible that we will be told nothing. I don't use social media, but I'm willing to bet that that could yield more info than the forums. I think there's big legal issues about intellectual property and things like all of our personal information, and can it be sold. This is something that's hurting people and a lot of lawyers are making money. This is seriously evil sh*t. If you hosts are out there, start to clear out the trash from the after party. Try and condense the anarchists with the conspiracy theorists and make a lane for those that might want to discuss a program issue.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. Speculation seems rife and theories abound. But nobody really knows apart from the powers that be at Gibwalk. The vast majority of views seem to fall into the Cakewalk=Saints/Gibson=Evil category. But we won't know that for sure until the dust has settled and those that really know are allowed to spill the beans. For all we know, Cakewalk may have been dead in the water when Roland decided to let them go, and Gibson may have effectively bought us a few years of continued support?

Meaning lifetime updates were: A. never based in reality B. deceptive and unethical to market. It's entirely possible. Also likely: Gibson bought Cakewalk thought may continue development; is now shutting down the brand cause the business just isn't viable anymore, but is not interested in unloading the brand as the intellectual property still has value. My guess? A little bit of both

Arrr! (BTW - I actually helped Greg debug Cakewalk v1.0 30 years ago, then got every update, plus all the add-on stuff, right up until the Credit Crunch wiped me out leaving me at SONAR Producer v4. Then Cakewalk dies and, at the finish line, I get Platinum - go figure!)

In which case, I salute you, Craig B I remember where I was working at the time I got my hands on Cakewalk. So it was somewhere around 1993 ~ 1994, and it was the version that worked on Windows 3. It came bundled with one of the more expensive Sound Blaster cards. I can't remember the one... Too long ago, but I do remember that the SB card came with a daughter board which utilised a chip by E-mu systems... I was pretty damn pleased with it to be honest... I had been using Cubasis Lite before that and it was bloomin' awful, especially for editing MIDI once recorded. So Cakewalk was a breath of fresh air. I used that program for quite a while...

Unfortunately, when I started with Cakewalk v1.0, I don't think SoundBlasters were around (or, at least, they didn't have General MIDI and sound generation back then). I had to buy a stupidly expensive (for the time) Turtle Beach sound card. Remember that screaming man icon that was the Panic Button you hit when a MIDI note got stuck on? Yeah... Good times! :-)

5 years of support and development TBE. If Gibson hadn't bought it all this would have happened 5 years ago and we'd still be in X2 or 3 today.

And yet... The same here as "up stairs!" lol Its all just a diversion at this point. This is the FIRST forum I survived! :( I ended up helping a few people in the forum and PMed. I'm gonna miss it... As my true nature is, I don't care for myself regarding this as much but more for the others losing Cakewalk. And it's cool to explore new options! Most don't need to be pushed blindly into something... When another DAW moves to this forum, many may believe that Cakewalk is ok with that... and when it's pinned to the top! That was mistake. lol oops! so what... But it did matter! I'm just looking out for the people here now when I post! and BTW may are kids! Lead, not push! The last few days working in Splat. when I use a cool feature I feel guilty and bad for the person who built it not having a job right now... That's just me! I ALWAYs look at like... Well, its time for the next thing... an exciting change! I'll go back upstairs now. lol Peace! REALLY!
Hay look, Somethings are not locked in stone... lol 3/18/2019
