Do YouTube subscriber numbers indicate a DAW's worth?
Many people are waiting for more info regarding the future of Cakewalk products, and some are already considering investing in a different DAW. As a Sonar Professional user, and relative noob with DAWs in general, I use YouTube to learn as much as possible about the different DAWs, and which general direction to consider, now. Do you put any value on the number of YouTube subscribers, for DAW company channels? For example: FL Studio: 268,985 Studio One 3: 72,425 Cakewalk: 31,436 Cubase: 20,261 The forum comments suggest you don't, but I'm curious if not, why not.

damnable forum No. The ONLY way to find out if something is good or not, whether it suits YOU or not, is to try them out for yourself. Don't worry about what anyoneelse says, whether it be positive or negative, they are not you Being a noob can be a bonus, you don't have that long time using another DAW experience, where you risk just quickly trying a new product, and because you can't do something as quick in the product you have been only using for a couple of minutes or hours as you can in a DAW you have been using for 10 years, you say 'this sux', You got to give it the time it deserves to get up to speed, if you have used a few DAWs over the years, switching really isn't that hard, the basics are all similar, but you just got to not let your familiarity with your previous DAW overtake your thinking. Most of all try for yourself, be honest with yourself, and be impartial, it really is the ONLY way you will find out what is best for YOU, what suits YOUR needs the best. If something doesn't suit, try something else, you will find something

Thank you. I agree with what you said. From a sales and marketing perspective, I imagine that many teams would hope for more subscribers, and consider that an indication of their customers' passion, and product's reputation. I'm clearly not so hip and young, but I appreciate the marketing importance of online social media for companies. I'm sometimes surprised by the lack of YouTube subscribers for some companies or products, and I feel that the online social media presence is a key factor for success. I thought that this was slightly missing too recently with Cakewalk (see Community - Google+ at Cakewalk.com), and I noticed that they were indeed interested in getting some help with this. Fingers crossed that things will work out for the Cakewalk team, and everyone else.

I've watched a lot of youtube videos for various things over the years, and I have never subscribed for 1, if there are a lot of other people like that the numbers wouldn't match reality? The most important thing is they do have videos etc available to the users.

The Cakewalk number being lower than the others could be because of these forums. Many people come here for answers, and usually get them, before searching through the dross at youtube.

Could also be an inverse relationship. The easier software is to use, the less need for youtube tutorials....

Overall DAW popularity will be a factor in those YouTube figures, but by no means the only factor and not even necessarily the biggest. It also depends on how well a YouTube channel is promoting itself, and also on the quality on the content (good content = more shares & subscribers). It will also depend on the demographic a particular DAW's customer base is dominated by: young users are probably more likely to subscribe to YouTube channels. Also, you have to look at how much of a DAW's YouTube content is aimed specifically at that DAW, and how much could be valued by DAW users in general. For instance, if the FL channel has a lot of tutorials which could be applied to mixing on any DAW, a lot of its views are going to be from non-FL users. Another DAW's YouTube content might be more specific to that DAW and will hence have a smaller audience.
