Thank you??
Wow,
This forum is really becoming a hornets nest in some areas but a real friendly place in others! I have been using Studio One for many years, so I don't use SPLAT, but it was my first DAW since the Pro Audio days and I have been keeping it updated so I can move old projects into SO (I did purchase the lifetime thingy). Here I go stepping in the hornets nest, but I think the DAW vendors that have made offers to help the Cake folks deserve a thank you. Yes it is the holidays, and yes some things are already discounted, but as I see it, they are extending offers and working on their holiday time off in some cases to help answer questions. Also the folks behind the scenes at the companies are taking their time to help out answer questions too. Bottom line, they don't have to, but they are. Many folks here are thanking the vendors, but for a few - well give someone an inch and they want a foot. With all the crap going on in the world these days, it is nice to see some folks actually care about others and want to help. If Presonus and Studio One disappeared tomorrow, I would probably look at one of the vendors that are helping here first. Just my $.02 Your turn.... h

Personally I think it's somewhat naive to think that the various alternative DAW companies are all here because they care about Sonar users and the situation they have found themselves in - they are here because it is a massive opportunity for them to pick up a lot of new customers of the kind that doesn't come along very often. They would be daft not to try and take advantage of this situation and I have no problem with them stating their cases, but they are doing it for themselves and for no other reason, so I don't see any need thank them for that - it's probably the best news they've had for years.

hbarton, I wish you and everyone here on the forums Happy Holidays! That being said, Look : Don't be so hypersensitive to the complaints here, a lot of people have vested Money and emotions in recording with this software. Some were promised LIFETIME UPDATES and never told that lifetime would only be a year or so. I wouldn't blame Gibson for it, I'd blame Cakewalk, because they were the ones who said after selling it would be business as usual and allowed the Lifetime updates sell to proceed as normal. Deceptive practice I would say, but that is JUST MY OPINION, and I must say I am glad I didn't purchase the lifetime updates. I would be really ticked off had I purchased Sonar Platinum as normal last year at this time and then took the 299 dollar offer for LIFETIME UPDATES only to realize now that I got my 1 year of free updates but the lifetime updates WONT HAPPEN. Either way, just my opinion on the subject and not fact. I don't blame anyone for being ticked off! If your hypersensitive to the subject, don't tell others they shouldn't be mad. We need a little more mayhem and chaos going on in these forums, people should be PI$$ED OFF! I don't blame them! I am not, but I am upset considering I vested a lot of time myself. Not to mention those who opted and did NOT UNCHECK the "Help use improve by sending anonymous information to us" option when installing the software actually played a part in the development of the software regardless of how anyone wants to put a spin on it. Meaning, they vested more than just using the software in a legal sense perhaps? It's a very messy situation. I do not blame anyone for being ticked off! Like I said, if you can't handle the reality of the situation, I'm sorry, but don't read them. Don't try and chastise anyone else for expressing their feelings here. The world is not a sugar coated candy, same with the internet, it's a place where you either learn to deal with it, or stay in your bubble. No offense meant, but this is my opinion, and I for one don't like anyone downgrading my friends here who just basically got screwed for purchasing being called Cry baby's! JUST MY OPINION........

hbarton, I'm with you. Yes, there is certainly a financial motive in offering CW users a discount on another DAW, but it's still a very kind and generous gesture. I don't see the need to look that gift-horse in the mouth. Like you. I think I'll just appreciate what they're doing.

Hey Noize, No problem, but you sort of missed my point. I was not asking folks not to be angry - that's their right and I understand that - I purchased the lifetime offer too. I just seemed to observe something that you don't see to often these days - a bit of good will to fellow musicians from a few of the DAW companies - tis the season. As other posters point out, maybe I am naive to think this and the companies are just vultures circling - I can see their point too. In the end, I choose to believe the companies honestly want to help out and some posters were hypersensitive to the reduced prices and wanted a better deal. That is the part that was a bit perplexing. Anyway, enough already - Happy Holidays to you too and any others here. I'm off to scan the posts and see if I can help out any future Studio One owners! h
