Just amazing...

I just received the following post from Music Connection:

Enter to Win SONAR Platinum from Cakewalk in This Week’s Friday Freebie!

Think we should let Music Connection in on what's happening to Sonar?

They are the only ones. Computer Music magazine is giving away a free copy of HomeStudio (full version) as well as Rapture.

In fairness to Computer Music (and perhaps the others), many in the magazine industry work about a month or so in advance.

You know, something just doesn't smell right. Why would you knowingly dump a company/product when you know about all of the publicity you are about to get due to give-a-ways, etc. Cakewalk was going to be in the press everywhere at this exact time, and you generate press to generate revenue. If you are going to dump your product, don't you dump it after you cash in on the 'last publicity push', not before?? Especially when you are in debt like Gibson and need every penny you can get????

That is quite true, and worth keeping in mind. For the websites, though, I'm not sure why they would miss this. It's one thing to have a Sonar deal in print that was setup months ago and you're stuck with it because there was no time to make changes. But websites can respond in the moment, and are supposed to be on top of that stuff. I work in online advertising, and if a product or company tanked just before an ad or promotion went live online, I'd be getting a call at 1 am Christmas morning (or whenever) to take it down NOW.
