I wonder if non-sonarites get cautious...

After what happened to CW, I wonder if users of other DAWs start to feel uncomfortable with autorization methods that require the vendor staying alive..
Everywhere in CW world, the most common question is not "what DAW will I buy now?", but "how can I authorize on a new PC?".

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I doubt they care.  If Cubase went under, I wouldn't blink an eye as it doesn't affect me or my workflow.

Experienced users have been thinking about that for awhile, at least since the demise of Kjaerhus. Nowadays, a product's copy protection method is an important factor when choosing which products to buy. At least, it is among experienced users. Some will refuse to buy products that use C/R authorization or are otherwise dependent on server-based authorization.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

My DAW pc is offline and I've always tried to avoid software that requires it to ever be online, but I got caught out recently with NI Komplete as I wasn't aware that they had changed their system since I installed my other NI stuff. I was also thinking that with all these Sonar people hurriedly switching to new DAW programs because they are worried that going forward they will not be able to access their project files if they continue using Sonar, who's to say that Presonus, for example, won't pull the plug on Studio One next year?

Though it was pretty obvious that all was not well at CW, I expected that it might end up with them being sold on again on or a management buyout, so I hadn't ever really considered that I might one day find myself in a situation whereby I could not access my old projects in the future, but that has happened now so there is nothing I can do about that. Changing to a new program now will not change that, so for now I'll just carry on and deal with a non-functioning sonar if/when that ever happens. My worst case scenario as I see it now if the promised self activation file fails to materialise is having to revert to X3, which although I'd rather no because the colour scheme. it wouldn't be the end of the world.
