Cloudlifter or Fethead for Ribbon Mic?
Any thoughts? I need to free up my ISA One preamp so I need something for my ribbon mic. Thanks/Jack

Big difference in price and footprint. FETHead claims an extra 5dB in gain over the CL with an inline format for $100. I checked out the CL-Zi for variable impedance, haven't tried it on ribbons but liked it well enough to put it on my list even at $350 or so. Possible more useful than another pre-amp.

Cloudlifter, hands down better. I had one, sold it when I picked up a Millennia Media HV-37, didn't miss it for a while, and of course now I have more than two ribbon microphones, so I wish I hadn't sold it.
While it never did anything cool - to my ears - for any of my condenser microphones, I also used on with moving magnet dynamic microphones, and on some of them it also made a positive difference. The one that benefited the most was an old RE-20.
I didn't sell my SPL Micman, which has some extra gain, so that's what I'm using now, but really, I need to pick up a pair of the Cloudlifters.
BUT... try to find a way to audition both of them if you can, and be the judge - $250 goes a long way

I ordered the cloudlifter. Its on the current Musician's Friend "17% discount". Made it $123.00 - best price currently anywhere.

I use a cloudlifter on my el cheapo MXL ribbon. It cost more (than double!) what the mike costs! But without it, I probably would have sent the mike back as defective. It has such a low output it needs the lifter. I am told you can use it for other dynamic mikes, but haven't tried that yet.

I found a long thread on gearslutz with some technical comparisons of the two. The cloudlifter's specs were better.
