Looking for best technique Using SONAR + Melodyne 4 to convert monophonic vocal line to MIDI. Anyone have any luck using a Kazoo?

Hi. Just drag the audio to a MIDI track. Haven't tried with a Kazoo. All the best.

Singing a simple audio line, then converting to MIDI is still very inaccurate conversion. I'm trying to find ways to get the vocal audio as simple as possible. (humming, kazoo, etc.)

Are you still using Melodyne v2 that came with Sonar? You should be able to upgrade to Essentials v4 for free - the audio to MIDI conversion is MUCH better. I even had some success with polyphonic conversion (which it really shouldn't do).

Does this actually work in Essential? I was looking at the version comparisons yesterday and it showed audio to MIDI was not included in Essential.

I don't think essential does audio to MIDI as standard, maybe its the ARA integration that allows it to do more... but it certainly works. I ended up upgrading to Melodyne Editor in the end, which gives better results and allows me to do the same level of pitch/time correction that you can with MIDI tracks. It has saved me SO much time with "picking" guitar takes, as tweaking a single out of tune note is a breeze.

So after some testing... Goal: convert Simple voice line to MIDI. NONE of the melodyne algorithms match the audio. The exception is: Region FX> Melodyne> Copy MIDI Events = closet match
- Percussion> export MIDI = fail
- Melodic> export MIDI = fail
- Poly Decay> export MIDI = fail
- Poly Sustain> export MIDI = fail
There must be a way to record in a vocal pattern that helps melodyne get a simple voice to MIDI. Hum, LaLaLa, EIEIOh WTF? I'm out of ideas.

Melodic should work but you may need to do a pitch adjustment to lock notes to scale (like 100%). Melodyne doesn't do well with pitch bends, so it will chop notes up when it sees enough drift (one note can become many).

You would have better luck cleaning it up a little bit before the conversion takes place.

"better luck cleaning it up" good vid thanks! I'm trying to avoid converting all melodies to piano just to get MIDI. wonder if throwing on a autotune would help. It seems like voice is to unstable. Timing and pitch.
