In the future, when I need to reinstall or install on a new machine...

I've always used Command Center to install/reinstall, but in the event the servers go down and we all become islands, I've downloaded the installers and tutorials for every product, plug-in and whatever. So my question is, should I ever need to install from those installers, is it an easy job?  For instance, once I install SONAR, then click the .exe for, say, Rapture, will it install and bind itself to SONAR, or are there other hoops involved? I have all my reg codes and stuff as well.

I have started an experiment and I installed Splat to a laptop at work using the downloaded file. I have not installed Command Center. I will try installing Dim Pro and a few others and let you know what happens. I would think I'll have to manually enter the serial numbers.

OK I'm at work and I just installed almost everything using the installers and it's FASTER than using CCC. No waiting for CCC to re load. And so far none asked for serial numbers. Maybe the first time I try and use them. I know for sure Melodyn will. But I copy pasted all the serials to a txt file.

The only experimant I have yet to try is to see if I can use the activation responce a second time on another machine.. I'll need to find a computer I haven't victimized yet.

What I found out through this process is after you install Splat to a fresh machine using the downloaded file. You go to the HELP menu and there is a 2 lines for Offline activation. The generate code and enter the code.  You can use the same computer if it's on line or a second computer, the activation code number shows in your account page and you copy paste it back to the help menu location.
Once thet version is activated the help menu no longer has the 2 activation lines... they disapear.
This is what I'm wondering how they will change this once there is no My Account Page to retrieve a code from.

So if my code works for a second install then that is our magic code.. but I really doubt it will work a second time.

I have tried myself but have found that Sonar somehow seems to track Motherboard/PC (Possibly even UAC) settings. Which means the offline activation request is tied to that PC and that PC only.

I should mention both PC's did have command center installed. I haven't tried to do what Johnny is attempting. that was going to be my next step.

Another alternative that I have chosen is to install SPLAT on several machines. I back them up in case MIcrosoft messes something up or an irreparable hw failure happens. I should be good for the next several years.

I was planning on upgrading to an SSD but kinda worried now that I'll get stuck trying to authorize it.
I would also like to install splat to a second laptop just in case.
Support emailed me long ago saying they had no issue installing on more than one computer asked that only one be used at a time.
Fine by me on that point...but...my SSD?

What I always do is keep the same Hard drive serial number, had the same for years. Then with every new hard drive I may need for op system (main drive) The first thing I do once it`s up and running with a basic windows setup is change my serial number for it to the one I always use (did it last year when I updated my main drive to a SSD) I`ve never had a problem installing and activating software this way, as long as the serial number stays the same.

There are various little apps on the net to do this, the above image is the one I`m currently using :-)

guys... mates... read the following Cakewalk statement:

But what if the servers do go down?
If or when the servers are taken down, we will make sure you have a way to authorize your products without using any of our current online authorization steps. We're working on a mechanism for if this does occur, to ensure our users will not lose functionality moving forward.

Looks like some knowledgeable folks discussing this thread so I'd like to jump in with a similar question.  I'm actually in the process of upgrading computers and have one on the way with a 512 GB SSD and a 2 TB HD. I've been a cakewalk user since it was basically just a midi tool so I've gone through a few computer upgrades but if I recall the last one wasn't as simple as I would have liked.  I was wondering if there is a good recommended approach/sequence to how I reinstall everything I have purchased from cakewalk (it's a huge list)...and where I should locate files in respect to the SSD and HD.  I'm not a computer wiz - just a bassist (I can play a 5-string) - so any advice or links to where this kind of information may exist would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help - long live Sonar (I did purchase a discounted Studio One over Thanksgiving at a discounted rate but haven't done anything but install it - I guess I'll eventually have to reinstall that on the new computer)

I think we have all seen that message. The concern is,
How are they supposed to give us this magic unlocking code if the servers go down ?
Send it by email with the information they have stored on their "Online servers" ?

Cakewalk already said they couldn't even send out a mass email to customers (letting them know Cakewalk and Sonar has been discontinued). Im not confident waiting around for this off line authorization.
