I am sorry, I don't know where to post my audio dropout problem, except here.

I am so sorry for all the Cakewalk employees and the company closing. Hope for the best for all of you!!!!

I figured out my audio dropout problem with some help from friends.
I am using Platinum producer;  Dell xps studio 9100 ( yr. shipped Jan. 2011).  It is running windows 10 pro., chipset: i-7  930  2.80 GHz , 2801MHz,  12 MB RAM,  video card Nvidia GeForce GTX970. Primary audio card= Fireface 800, secondary audio Behringer Ultragain pro 8 digital card. and Soundcraft Spirit analog mixer 32 channel.
my Band recorded 5 songs rhythm tracks, scratch vocal on Nov. 4th. 12-14 channels live with the two sound cards. Then Nov.15th attempted to record harmony vocals thru the behringer ultragain card, (FF800 being the playback of already recorded tracks). CRASH,, One song, one take worked, then crash!!! hang, freeze,,, "audio dropout" blue screen.,  In fact I kept clicking mouse hoping to restore operations, then I got a grey screen with Sonar faded in background. Gave up that night., We then also found out MSN pushed Windows 10 major update out to the world the day before. I updated another update the next day for windows, checked for sonar updates, FF updates etc.
Next session after Thanksgiving, same scenario, gave up, started searching for a professional to fix, emailed Sonar, created two tickets. No answers from anyone with an absolute fix or work around. I tried tonight without the second sound card (Behringer Ultragain pro 8 digital), I moved all my mic.s over to the FF800. It worked, no more hangs, crashing, freezing up. I was able to put test harmony vocals on multiple channels with no more problems.
FYI..
Update 12-6-2017 trouble came back to haunt us again. one pas, two vocalists, one song, second pass to correct saturated vocal on verse one only, Sonar crashed, froze, (Not responding) audio dropout, grey screen when clicking on mouse, HELP anyone.

Running two sound cards is always problematic. The only exception is when you have two identical cards that are accessed via the same driver (linked). On reading your post I was going to advise you to see if your NVidia card installed it's own HD audio drivers (for HDMI), and if so, to disable them. WIn10 tends to re-enable, and/or re-install theses when updating. But I see you have your problem sorted out.

Yup - many 8-port interfaces support ADAT/Lightpipe connections to expand ports to 16, but using two different audio cards can cause issues.

Not sure if Windows 10 streaming audio works well enough now to run in Windows audio driver mode, rather than trying to use ASIO, but anyways, hope your issues were all resolved as of your post.

I want to do a little more research to perhaps help you out, but if indeed the 2017 Fall Creator's update (as it's called, or update name "FCU1709") was downloaded and installed on your computer, then it could very well be the problem.  I would suggest rolling back Windows, if you can, to the version BEFORE the update and test again.  I will say based on my own experience that FCU1709 absolutely jacked with my dual-unit Focusrite Saffire system for apparently no reason.  Something in the WDM drivers changed, even though I use ASIO.
