Tascam FW-1884 - life after Cakewalk Sonar?
I am mulling a very good price offering on "upgrading" to Samplitude Pro X3 Suite. Since Sonar is an orphan I need to find a DAW that will remain updated. I have a very good but legacy combo control surface/audio & MIDI interface in the Tascam FW-1884. There's nothing like it today. You'd need two or three different expensive hardware units to accomplish what this one old beast will do. It is working just fine with my current setup (Platinum, Win7 64) .. BUT..
I have drawn a blank trying to find out if it will work with the latest Samplitude DAW.
Does anyone know? If I have to upgrade all my hardware as well it may shoot the tempting move to Samplitude down.
I think the cheapest but decent replacement equipment I'd need to take the place of the FW-1884 would still run about $700 or more. Meanwhile baby needs a new pair of shoes ... so the money is a big issue.

Hi. Try to change the FW1884 over to Mackie mode.
I can use mine in both Mixbus and Studio One in Mackie mode. In SONAR I use it in Native mode.

Hi! As Zargg says, it should work in Mackie mode, Samplitude has a "FactoryPreset" called Tascam FW-1884 (Mackie) in the Hardware controller setup.

Thanks so much for the information. I was also going to pop for the Harrison Mixbus since it's being offered at such a reasonable price  ($49), with the Essentials plug-ins as well. The Samplitude Pro 3X Suite packaged w Spectralayers Pro (I think the Suite also includes Sound Forge 11) for $149, seems like it's too affordable to pass up. I know that Presonus Studio One is at the same price. I don't know much about either except the reviews I've read, but I'd have to settle on just one of these. Knowing that the Samplitude actually has a hardware setup preset for the FW-1884 is encouraging, then there's the Mackie mode option for both programs. If I had the disposable cash I'd buy everything my heart desires, but I have to choose wisely. I know Sonar will be still usable for a few years even without any more updates and I hate the learning curve of new DAW programs... but, wow they're offering them so cheap!

I once had an FW-1884. It should work, at least for basic functions, on any DAW that has Mackie Control emulation. There can be some tricks, though. For example, I now use a Behringer X-Touch, and that works on Mixcraft by using the emulation for Logic Controller, not Mackie Controller. Apparently the Mackie Controller had old (gray) and newer (silver) models.
Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit. Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch. Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.

I got Mixbus last year, when on sale for 29$. I find it very intuitive to work in. But it's more of an Audio DAW, IMO. I just got S1, and haven't tested enough to say so about it yet.

The 1884 works in "Mackie" mode in Reaper.
Somewhat "limited" compared to the Sonar Plug-in we are used to.
I assume this applies to any DAW using the "mackie mode" emulation.
With Azlow3 looking at porting his system over to Reaper maybe the future there looks "bright".

I agree that the Mackie emulation is somewhat limited compared to Native mode in SONAR, both in REAPER and Studio One 3.
I haven't messed much with it yet, though.

How about you get the Samplitude Pro X3 Suite anD see if it works in Splat first. If it does, then you are all set. If it doesn't, then start looking for a replacement.
