I Discovered a kool thing about SONAR
Anyone who has spent time scoring to picture knows the things that drive you crazy about working on a DAW. The biggest problem you run into is changes in picture. Someone cuts a couple of frames here and there and couple of seconds ...adds a couple of seconds and your score becomes a train wreck. If you are not super careful your music cues that you worked so hard on are all over the place. Wrong tempo, meter, volume everywhere.
Well a couple months ago I accidentally discovered something that makes that all so much easier. You can load 2 videos and projects into Sonar at the same time and everything still functions! I do not know if this is due to recent updates in Sonar or Kontact. Most of the heavy lifting in my projects are in Kontact. I've noticed if you load projects with the same synths, the projects "share" the ram and it is not hard to bounce between projects.
So now after I score a video and have changes, I import the new video with a new project name, then import the old project. I size the new video larger than the old video so I do not get confused. In the past if a scene had major changes I dreaded it. I would insert a bunch of measures, do the new scoring, then delete out the required time to get everything downstream back in sync. It is always dicey and you have to be very careful.
Now I just delete everything past the edit spot, do the changes, then copy and paste the down stream data back in from the old project. AND I have the old project up to use as a reference. Super cool and easy! I don't' worry about accidentally moving individual instruments out of sync, tempo or meters getting misplaced!!
just go to preferences>advanced> and uncheck only allow one project. If the second project shuts down your computer you can load it in safe mode instead. If you had bounced down your music you could hear the music thru that track. But I have found if you have the same soft synths/samples in the 2 projects you are good.
Anyways...wish I would have figured this out years ago.
Just when Sonar is getting really good it gets shut down.
