Pentagon 1 stopped working in Sonar Platinum
Pentagon was working fine for me in Platinum. I just bought a new computer and it also worked briefly on the new install and then it stopped loading. I also installed X3 and Pentagon still works fine if I run X3 as administrator. Running Platinum as administrator causes the program to close (when opening a project with Pentagon) and triggers the fault reporter. If I run Platinum normally, the project opens but states that the Pentagon plug in is "missing." I checked all the previous threads I could find on this issue and tried different variations of allowing registry permissions for the RGC Audio registry key but nothing seems to work. I even did an uninstall and "clean" install of Platinum but this did not fix the issue. Does anyone know of a solution? Pentagon is my go to classic synth and I cannot live without it! I prefer not to have to work in X3 every time I need to use it, especially since I know it should work in Platinum (and did previously).

IDK, you may have found the reason Cakewalk dropped the synth from SONAR. One thing to try is remove the registry entry and the folder from "Shared DXi" the re-install the synth.

You fallen in love with a buggy VST and really you should move on. But If you just have to have it then ya, you'll need to open the project in X3 and freeze the synth and then return to Splat using the audio track. I find that at first I just have to use something and very quickly find better replacements. If you want to have everything you'll every need keep an eye out for the next time Air's Xpand pack goes on sale. There must be a million instruments in there from traditional though beond weird. And if you have time to kill I think there's even ways to sample your old synths and dump those in the library and use a newer player to trigger them.

Scook, thanks. I tried that about ten times because I'm insane and I expected a different result. Sadly, it didn't help.

Did you try this https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007012981/Pentagon-wont-install-properly If you're still having problems or if the Pentagon doesn't appear as an option under DXi's, try these steps: - To ensure that other programs are not interfering with the installation of Pentagon I, do the following.
- Click the Start button.
- Choose Run.
- Type msconfig in the Run box and click OK
- Choose Selective Startup
- Click the Create Backup button
- Un-check Load Startup Group Items
- Click OK and restart the computer
- Now reinstall Pentagon I. If you no longer have the Pentagon installer, we do allow additional downloads of the installer files. See your original email purchase confirmation for download instructions.
This also might be the reg issue Steve mentioned http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/1966631

Were these project created with Platinum? If not, try creating a new project (maybe using the -Blank Project- in the new project dialog from the main menu) and see if it fails the same way.

Chuck, unfortunately neither of these methods helped but thanks! In fact, if I enable "Allow" permissions for the users group, it actually causes Platinum to close (fault reporter comes up). I get an "Error Uncompressing MIDI Data" message. I may need to take Cactus' advice and move on, lol!

This project was indeed created in Platinum. Adding Pentagon in a new project fails as well.

This is how I solved the Pentagon problem without needing to run SONAR as admin. Warning: it involves editing the registry... 1 - Open Registry Editor 2 - Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\rgc:audio Software 3 - Right click on this node and select permissions 4 - Click Add 5 - Type Users into the dialogue box and hit OK 6 - In the original dialogue box (as at (3)), you'll now see Users listed 7 - Highlight Users 8 - Click the "Full Control" checkbox 9 - Click OK

Thanks KPerry. I don't have an rgc:audio key in Wow6432Node. It's only found in Software under local machine. This plug -in was is included with the Sonar X3 install. Perhaps yours is a stand alone? I did already try the same permissions procedure on the existing key (and several variations) without any success.

A Wow6432Node entry exists only if the 32bit version of Pentagon is installed on 64bit Windows.
